Got back from a day at the Frick, Central Park and Union Sq Park
when my phone rings and its the annoying folks from Citibank South Dakota who keep calling me despite me telling them not too.

So before the spiel begins I said "Hi Citibank South Dakota.I'm pro-choice, so screw South Dakota, screw your Governor and screw Citibank--- Bye.

'Take me out tonight where's there's music and there's people and they're young and alive.'

You should have told them you were going to use your Citibank card to pay for your abortion.

Maybe I'm a little bit naive, but what does a bank calling you have to do with a current political debacle?

Is it because they're from SD?

Don't get me wrong, it's very funny and Kringas' response was very funny. But currently I'm in that "laughing because everyone else is" mode until I know why.

Thank you kindly.

My wife and I have a saying when discussing this issue,

In a Southern drawl:

I'm gonna go out and get me one of them partial birth abortions.

(It makes us laugh.)

Basically Matthew is because these idiots keep calling me, apparently exempt from the no call list. Sometimes four times a day.
They're probably calling me from India with a South Dakota accent.

I had a similar problem Matthew. I finally asked to speak to a supervisor and that I wanted to cancel my account - they panicked, and apologized and have not called since. All my calls came from a call room in India also - they are exempt from the Do Not Call List that way.

Thanks for explaining it! :)

I've tried throwing that "Do Not Call List" in the face of callers, and they always find a way to be "exempt"... It irks me. I can say, however, that the mass amount of telemarking calls I received have considerably calmed down.

My run-ins with telemarketers and companies calling is never pleasant. I'm a VERY nice person...very, very nice...but I've always had a burr up my arse when it comes to someone calling on that phone trying to con me into something.

Bottom line.. if you request to be off the call list and they call you again, you can sue. At the very least, you can scare the !#$^% our of the person calling by telling them that you are on the no call list and there's no exemption.. that you've already dealt with this and that you'd like their name, location and supervisors name so your attorney can be in touch

But aren't charities exempt? If a group or corporation is calling now-a-days, most seem to KNOW if they are exempt. At least from my experience. And often they're right under the law. It has a few loop-holes.

I have reported one company once, but their number was visible on my Caller ID. Unfortunately*, MOST call incognito and you can't trace their original calling number, and they hang up very suddenly when the call goes sour.

Political campaigns are exempt too, no?

Charities and political messages are exemt, as well as companies you do/have done business with (reason being that you asked for their services once before). Craig is right in that you can sue actual violators, as can the state you live in fine the company (this has happened in PA)

I'm always nice...until they won't take NO for an answer. Once, a guy from the Denver Post called my dorm room and kept badgering me to buy a subscription and I finally had to say "What part of NO don't you understand?" and hung up.
