Curious! From Nerve.com:

Steven Soderbergh prides himself on being an eclectic filmmaker and you can’t get much more eclectic than following up a biopic of Che Guevara with one of Liberace. Actually, the Liberace project won’t be next on Soderbergh’s agenda – that would be The Girlfriend Experience for Mark Cuban’s HDNet – but it’s definitely on the back burner. Variety reports “Soderbergh is in discussions with Matt Damon to play Scott Thorson, who sued Liberace in 1982 for $113 million in palimony, claiming he was the entertainer’s companion for five years. Even though Liberace never wavered from career-long denials that he was gay, Thorson reportedly settled for $95,000 in 1986.” And who will play the flamboyant entertainer? Would you believe…Michael Douglas?

It's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.” ~ Muhammad Ali

Your thread title gave me pause, BB!

Ugh. Remember those dueling TV bio-pics on Liberace? One was with Victor Garber, and I can't remember who was in the other one. I think they actually aired the same week (or close to it!).

We need this like we need a feature film on Amy Fisher.

...especially if it's going to focus mostly on the "scandalous" palimony suit.

Boring!

And that casting is seriously off.

Wouldn't Wayne Newton be a hoot?

I think it was Andy Robinson in the other Liberace TV movie.

Just what we need, a biopic of Liberace, a self-hating closeted gay man who became a national joke before and after dying of AIDS. Directed by a straight man, yet, and starring Michael Douglas.

Feh. I'll be missing that one.

...unless they do it as a B&W musical.

Then I'm SO there!

Best, it'd make a great subject for Guy Maddin.

Aren't both Michael Douglas and Matt Damon WAY too old to play these guys?

They are both way to old. Besides, doesn Hollywood believe there's a market for this?

Soderbergh doesn't exactly go by what the market wants. His latest film is a 4 hour long biopic about Che Guevara, after all.
