I'm old enough to remember this but I don't. I'm sure I must have seen it. Maybe I've blocked it from my mind due to being traumatized by it.

I saw it the one and only time it was broadcast. I remember my mind wandering.

"This being the 1970s and the height of the variety show era, the producers threw in Bea Arthur, Harvey Korman, Art Carney, Diahann Carroll and Jefferson Starship."
I love it!
I love Chewbacca's wife... Paula.
His father... Itchy.
His son... Lumpy.

Aw, give Bea a break. She had just finished Maude and she was terrified she would never work again. Circus of the Stars had just turned her down and producers weren't returning her calls. She was in a bitter divorce with Gene Saks where she was afraid she would have to pay alimony and at the same time was trying to buy up the remaining prints of "Lucille Ball in Maimed" so that they could be locked away in the MGM vaults.
She was married to Gene Saks? Which one was the top?

Unfortunately this was only the tip of the iceberg. Less than 24 months later, she would have to answer for those "artistic" photos that Marlene Dietrich sold where Bea had posed with Lotte Lenya.

Malla, b12b. It's Malla. Trust me, I've been watching this thing annually for... I shudder to think how long.
Okay... Malla, Itchy, and Lumpy, then.
Did Lucas get those names out of an old "Leave It To Beaver" script?
Didn't Maury Yeston have something to do with the music for this show?
I came across a cassette of the soundtrack once, but it didn't list any music credits.
Maury Yeston? Wow.
From everything written on the site it looks like most people involved are trying to forget the entire thing.
By the way, has anyone read "What were they thinking?" the book mentioned in the article.
The best moment I think is when Princess Leia breaks out into song!

I think, unless I'm mistaken, that Maury Yeston wrote the songs for the Star Wars holiday CD "Christmas in the Stars", featuring such classics as "What Can You Get a Wookiee for Christmas (When He Already Has a Comb?)". I don't think he had any direct involvement with the special itself, though.
Also, the script for the special is partially written by Bruce Vilanch. Go figure.
