I saw her a few times in the elevator at City Center.
Did any of you study with her?
Any stories?

She came to see a play I was in when she visited Australia in '74 and after the show she joined the cast for a supper in her honour. Our leading lady played a working class housewife, and suddenly in the middle of the conversation Stella said "I love that walk you do in the play. Get up and do that walk."
There was a rather shocked silence during which Stella repeated "Go on, do that walk." So the actress (who was midway through her meal) slowly got up and shuffled around the room while we all watched.
I'm sure she was brilliant but I think we were all a little relieved that we weren't students in her class.

Hmm, bossy much?
She was pretty old in the elevator so I didn't get bossed around.
Thanks for the story Wildcat.
I hope we get more.

I stage managed a show at the academy in Hollywood. Every picture of her on the wall look like she was going to pop a vein. And her hands looks like talons that would rip out your throat.
Just my thoughts.
