Normally, I'm not really a fan of Soderbergh but, oddly enough, he made one of the best and more original movies that I've ever seen: TRAFFIC. I'd consider it a sort of Goodfellas for the '90s. Anyone else love this movie?
Loved the movie, but wouldn't put it in the same category as Goodfellows.
I am not sure what I would compare it with, just not that.

Holy f***, did I just forget what decade we were in?
Baaaaah
I meant the Goodfellas of the NAUGHTS, not 90s.
I enjoyed Traffic a lot. I typically enjoy Soderbergh's films though. Out of Sight in particular is one of my favorites - and I am NO Jennifer Lopez fan.
However, unless you mean that Traffic is original in the way it was shot (different tint of lenses on the camera to represent the different geographical locations etc) and the technical aspect of it, it isn't exactly orginal at all. In fact, it was based on a British miniseries by the same name. Well, it's called Traffik.
I never got what all the fuss was about Goodfellas.

Grrr. I rented this to watch over Thanksgiving break, but never got around to it.

I'm comparing it to Goodfellas because of how they similarly use a fictional (In Traffic's case.) or historically fictional (In Goodfellas case. I doubt everything in it happened EXACTLY as it was portrayed.) narrative to give the viewer a fly-on-the-wall view of how an organization or how a system works from the inside-out. Though they are different (Goodfellas is more of a traditional movie whereas Traffic continually blurs the line between fact and fiction.), they are similar at the same time.
