Spears Fansite Closes
AP / Danny Moloshok, File
The most popular Britney Spears fan Web site WorldOfBritney.com is closing after its owner declared the controversial pop star is "done."
Ruben Garay, who has hosted WorldOfBritney.com since October 2000, yesterday announced the site will no longer exist after January 31 because the singer is "losing her identity and credibility with fans and industry people."
Garay says, "I still and will always respect Britney as a human being, we are just choosing to not go on with this site...
"I think that WoB has had its run. Its feet are not holding firm anymore, not because of my ability to run it, but because I believe Britney is unfortunately done (for me at least)."
Spears has been criticized by fans and the media this year for her parenting skills -- earlier this year she was visited by the Los Angeles' Department Of Children and Family Services after she was photographed driving with her baby son Sean Preston on her lap, and a month later when the tot fell out of his highchair at her Beverly Hills, Calif., home.
Spears' parenting skills were questioned again last month after she filed for divorce from husband Kevin Federline. The aspiring rapper filed court papers for sole custody of their two children, Sean Preston, 16 months; and Jayden James, 3 months, claiming he didn't know of their whereabouts.
Spears has repeatedly been photographed partying in Las Vegas, Miami, New York City and Los Angeles since their split, prompting speculation her mother Lynne is caring for the young boys.
Oops - I won't do it again

Wow. All the way back to 2000?!?!?
Fans aren't what they used to be. But then again, neither is that of which they are fans.
Anyone care to speculate how many times Cher, Liza or Bette has been 'done'?
People crack me up - when they're not making me throw up.

Interesting point DG - I wonder just how well the careers of those women would have faired had they had to deal with the hostile media and conservative morals that today's entertainers must deal with. The media has forced us all to "get over" and move onto the next hot creature that they give a crown to - for the simple fact that if they did'nt, there would be no need for their service.

Why, Cheeze - it's ALMOST as if you're implying that many (if not most) 'fans' are simply responding to what they're TOLD is worthy of attention, rather than actually responding to the input . . .
But I KNOW you would never imply such a thing.

Welcome to the internet baby - welcome to the internet.
Today on Perez:
The webmaster of one of Britney Spears' most popular fansites made headlines worldwide when he announced this week his decision to shut down his site because (amongst other things) the singer has lost "her identity and credibility within fans and industry people."
He added that Britney was done for him and that it was hard to maintain the respect needed to keep things going.
However, PerezHilton.com has learned that the aforementioned Britney fansite webmaster was forced to closed down his own website.
And, in a pathetic attempt late last month, he emailed someone in Spears' camp, attempting to get them to help "save" the fansite.
PerezHilton.com has obtained that email:

Subject: Bad news....
Hey XXXXX,
I've got some pretty bad news. When I shut down WoB back in 2002, I sold the rights to the domain name to a business man in Asia, who since then has had me update and work on the site and keep making it my own after I returned 3 months later (long story). Either way, he's selling his business and entertainment network sites to a bigger company for over $3 million and WoB is going to be included in that deal. I asked him what was going to be done with it and he said "nothing" because the new buyer was not even interested in WoB. I asked him what could be done for me to be able to keep the website and transfer 100% ownership to me and he told me I would have to buy it off from him for $50,000 or best offer. So , unless that happens, it is with 100% certainty that WoB will be lost when the sale goes live in January of 2007. Do you have any thoughts? Would you or Britney be interested in buying it off for me? I have begged and pleaded with him to let me keep it, but it won't happen unless it's bought off. Get back to me please.
The site right now is generating over $5000 in ad profits per month, so I'm sure that in less than a year, we could make that money back.
-Ruben"
Unfortunately for him, Britney's peeps said "no" to his offer.
Of course, none of this was mentioned in the press release announcing the close of the Britney fansite.
PerezHilton.com contacted the webmaster for comment.
Before we posted this, we asked him: "Is there anything you'd like to add or you felt was missing from any of your statements about why you are closing the website?"
His response: "I have exhausted my attempts at making Britney show appreciation and respect for the millions of fans that have been waiting for her comeback after all these years, with a recent incident, where she blatantly stood up two winners who had won a meet and greet with her, setup by her management through World of Britney.com, on October 31st, 2006. These fans flew all the way from the east coast, paid for the flight themselves and had to go back home empty handed and disillusioned. Even though an apology was issued by management, Britney had nothing to say. After everything that has been going on, including the over-the-top behavior and latest antics, that was the last straw. If Britney does not care, guess what, neither will we."
Wow. With fans like that Britney doesn't need any enemies!
We're sure Spears won't miss the closing of that particular fansite. She's too busy recording her new album and working on other ventures.
In spite of all the current press issues, her new fragrance launch "Midnight Fantasy" out sold all of her previous launches.
Her fan base is still strong.
The true test will be in the songs. And we have faith that she's working with some hot producers and the comeback will happen next year.
God willing!
"Y'seen 'Back To The Future'? I thank that's REAL. I think that time travel is happening and some people are ahead of uuuuus..."

Borstal- that's my favourite video of the year.
"Ah fell like ah been missin' out...on life...you know, life, and...stuff...and...stuff."
What was that movie we missed? Spawn? I didn't even get to see Spawn. (Spawn came out in 1997)
