Posted: 5/21/08 at 8:55amMonths ago, I heard that a remake of Adventures In Babysitting was in the works, starring Raven. That's just wrong on so many levels. Why would anyone remake a movie that is absolutely perfect in every way?

I also read somewhere that they are planning a re-make of The Wizard Of Oz.
If that's true, then something is wrong in the Universe.

TheatreDiva-
The Oz remake battle has waged for year, and it probably won't happen.
I gotta agree with The Ammityville Horror. They took a movie that was based mainly off of a book, and re-made it as a movie that was loosely based on the original. They even changed things that could be proven, like the number and ages of children. *eye roll*

And the fact that the whole thing was revealed as a hoax.
Years ago, there was talk of an ALL ABOUT EVE remake with Jodie Foster and Claire Danes. I kid you not. Luckily, folks came to their senses.
And there was talk of a ROSEMARY'S BABY done as a two-part TVM which would improve on Polanski's film...how exactly? And, um, who would fill the shoes of Ruth Gordon? Let alone Mia Farrow!

It's not the old Oz rumor.
It's a whole new one that says it's going to stay truer to the books.
Anyway, I think it's a silly idea. There would be NO WAY to top the original.

A couple years ago there were rumors swirling around that Ben Afleck and Jennifer Lopez wanted to remake "Casablanca."
Thank god those plans never came to fruition.

There has been talk for YEARS about a remake of The Exorcist, but it has never materialized. I expect people are afraid to take it on. The advances in special effects makes me curious, but what remake has been made better because of better special effects?

Oh, speaking of WEST SIDE STORY, here's a story I heard:
Disney called both Arthur Laurents and Stephen Sondheim to L.A. to pitch a proposition to them. They flew to L.A. not knowing what Disney had in store. At the meeting, executives unveiled their idea: An animated version of WEST SIDE STORY with the Jets and Sharks played by cats and dogs!
Sondheim reportedly turned to Laurents and said "Think of our paws, one paw?"
To which Laurents replied, "Maria? I just met a bitch named Maria?"
The meeting ended immediately. A gobsmacked Laurents and Sondheim didn't say one word to each other on the flight home.

How about a tv series of Casablanca with David Soul as Rick?
It really aired but flamed out after a few episodes.

Posted: 5/21/08 at 3:45pmNo. And as long as there are tooly people--and there are plenty of them around here--who say "Oh, I know PROM NIGHT/WHEN A STRANGER CALLS, etc. is going to suck but I'm going to go see it anyway" we will continue to have remake after remake...
