I have an audition for Thoroughly Modern Millie next Wednesday and We have to have one 16 bar cut contemporary and one 16 bar cut 20's/30's style.
I was trying to gear my audition towards Miss Dorothy because I'm a small, legit soprano with the ability to do a charactery type role- and I REALLY would love to play the part. My original plan was to do "Glitter and Be Gay" from Candide, thinking that the characters are almost a perfect match and I had the perfect 16 bar cut. But I was thinking that maybe that would be TOO technical and operatic for a Thoroughly Modern Millie audition, even if it is for Miss Dorothy. But my other 16 bar cut would be "A Quarter to Nine" from 42nd Street to show my belt and keep open possibly being considered for Muzzy, Mrs. Meers, or even Millie (although while I can tap, I'm not a super strong, trained tapper, which is why I wasn't focusing on that in the first place). Does anybody think that even if I am doing a belt piece to contrast that "Glitter and Be Gay" would be TOO legit? Because I was also considering that maybe I could do "Follow Your Heart" from Urinetown, it's just not nearly as high and I was trying to show off my really high range.
I'd really appreciate any advice!
