There are a bunch in the play...its an AMAZING play too...go to
http://www.dramatists.com/ and you'll be able to find it through a simple search...i did the one that warren does at the very end of the play talking about his father and his fathers decline and i loved it...there are also a bunch of Dennis ones that are about death and are very fun and angsty...read the play...you'll like it...it's one of those the more you read the play the more you like it. Jake Gyllenhaal, Hayden Christainsen and Ana Paquin were all in it in london a few years ago

Posted: 5/9/06 at 11:12pmIt's such a Gen X play...the pieces in it aren't especially well written for auditions either. They are mostly "story" pieces...something to stay away from. Daniel MacIvor has some good pieces...Judith Thompson...George F. Walker. You could do something by Sam Shepard...Fantastic pieces, and they are easy to age down.

Wow, did you read the play??? Anyways, disregard his commet BTMartin because it did wonders for my auditions and got me into my number one school and some other top places.

Posted: 5/10/06 at 1:08pmI read the play...played Dennis, and did a boat load of table work with Hayden when he came back from London. The pieces in it are tired and auditors have heard them from every teenage actor around. The fact is they are not good pieces, AND they are overdone. If you must do a piece from This is Our Youth, do something that deals with the relationship between the two boys. There is a decent piece after Dennis talks about his near death experience and how he is superior to others. The piece is Warren responding. Its rather strong, but at the same time, like the other pieces from this play...overdone. Look elsewhere.

Posted: 5/11/06 at 12:25amEvery casting director I've worked with, and every audition I've sat in on where a piece from This is our Youth is read has taught me that it is indeed overdone. Directors really don't like it, at least those that I've worked with. And from a character perspective they don't offer a whole lot. Look elsewhere.

If you put down any monologue on this board SOME moron is going to tell you that it's overdone and bad writing...just try it for yourself...if you don't like it you don't like it but just give it a read its really good for young people.
