I just read this yesterday and loved it. Did anyone else hear read it? What did you think?
I've never heard of this boy, book, play?
I did have the privilege of visiting the Anne Frank House last January.
It's about Peter's life had he survived and moved to America. I found it very captivating.

That's on my "must read" list. I visited Ann Frank's House in Amsterdam this summer. Just walking past the famous bookcase and climbing the steps (actually a ladder) into the attic gave me chills. Once there, though, I found the attic to be somewhat larger than I had imagined.
I highly reccommend it. You won't be disappointed.
first time I went to the Anne Frank Huis was in 1974. I am sure it is still as moving as it was then. My only cpmplaint was all the tourist crap at the end of the tour.......

Elphaba, I'll always treasure my Anne Frank Oven Mitt!
Dollypop, I'm sure it seems a lot bigger to someone spending a few minutes there by choice than by seven people forced to exile themselves there with no escape for a period of time.
Joe_I'm sorry that I want to talk to BWWers who like reading historical fiction, and who may or may not have enjoyed this book. There was no need for that remark.
Dollypop--you seemed to have missed the point.
Again.
I visited the Anne Frank House a few weeks ago in Amsterdam. I didn't notice anything tasteless about the gift shop; I believe all they sold was the diary in different languages.
I think the reason the attic seems larger in real life was the lack of furniture. I personally found the experience surreal and chilling, that seven people had lived in such confined quarters to escape persecution sixty years ago.
Never heard of this book but I'm going to add it to my Amazon order when I get home. Thanks for the suggestion!
ok, get off Joe's case.....I'm Jewish, and it didn't bother me at all. In fact, I laughed.
Would I say it to my living relatives who were in the camps? No, but sometimes PC goes a bit too far...and sometimes you just have to laugh things off......
Once again, Elphaba shows himslef to be the voice of reason.
By the way Elphaba, I loved Bruges! Thanks for recommending it. I had the best chocolate in my life.

The gift shop was filled with numerous books, videos and posters--all of them of an educational nature. I bought numerous posters and pictures for my classroom.
Pal Joey, what point did I miss?

Thank you Elphaba! I'm sorry that people thought my crack was inappropriate-- I was in the play the Diary of Anne Frank many many years ago and can remember hours of tasteless Anne Frank jokes that helped us to lighten the mood. I am one of those handful of people who think that ireverence is always in order.
And despite all the angry messages and rude privates I got, I still believe, after all, that people are basically good at heart.
bluewizard......in the 1970's the giftshop was way overboard
