"With grave regret, The Washington Ballet must cancel its remaining performances of The Nutcracker due to a strike by its dancers. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience and disappointment this news brings." - The Washington Ballet
'tis the season.
How awful.
How powerful.
I think it may be worse than this. I heard on the news last night that this annual Christmas production is their big fund raiser for the year. Since this year's had to be cancelled, they've also cancelled the rest of the season.
Going to see this production of Nutcracker has been my Christmas tradition for quite a few years. This really put a sour note on the season. (I went to KC yesterday for the National Symphony orchestras "The Messiah". It was good* - but it wasn't "The Nutcracker")
(edit: *I was just reminded about how totally blown away I was by the chorus yesterday. They were magnificent. The orchestra....maybe not quite so much. But the chorus was perfection!)
That is very sad.
this does not bode well for the future of the arts...

Aw. I had heard there was a possibility of a strike, but hadn't heard anything else and thought no news was good news.
I saw the Washington Ballet perform The Nutcracker every Christmas from ages 4-12, this is definitely disappointing.
