The local theatre company had been complaining that they wanted to vary locations for shows more. I proposed a produciton of Putting It Together in the park which was approved and will take place in March. I haven't even started working on this yet and they have asked for other outdoor & non-theatre housed productions to be brought to the next meeting "so we can continue to look forward". I personally think one season at a time is enough but I'm not on the board so.....

What I'm getting at here is I'd like some help finding some shows to look into so that I can prepare something for the next meeting. I've been thinking about Nine but I'm not sure a scaled down and/or outdoor version would be palatable. Just looking for suggestions. Thanks!

Edit***

Forgot to mention. It's your standard midwestern theatre company. Our talent skews younger but we have more middle aged people audition. We ussually have to turn girls away and search for guys. Just to get an idea of what types of cast to keep in mind. :) Updated On: 10/26/10 at 05:21 PM

You're putting on a show in the Midwest in a park in March?

There are special challenges to doing theater outdoors.

Acoustics can be next to impossible. (Does your city allow amplification?)

Weather can be unpredictable.

Birds and bugs flying around.

Noises from other non-theater types in the park.

People paying for "lawn" seats and there not being enough lawn to go around.

Doing outdoor theater can be the biggest hassle you've ever faced. Think it over carefully.
