My good friends at BroadwayWorld.com,
I will be away for a week (7/18-7/23) attending a technical theatre camp at Wright State University, the beginning of a dream come true. Eleven other Ohio high school students and I will have seminars daily, along with plenty of independant study/project time. I am very excited because this will be my first formal training and I will get to meet kids that are my age and have the same interests. When I come home, I get to finish up my lighting design project and work with gobos for the first time. I have much to look forward to in the coming months and CAN'T WAIT! Thank you for all of the support you have shown for me. It really means a lot. I will leave Sunday, so you still have a couple days with me.
Love,
Derric
That's a wonderful experience. Enjoy and most of all, have fun!!!

I guess this can be a happy tear (for my experience) or a sad tear (because I will be away). LOL
yup, both. :)
Have fun, kid.
We'll be here when you get back.

HOPEFULLY!
Wright State is a good school. I remember really liking the faculty when I got to work with them during ACTF and USITT. (Wow, how was that for blatant use of acconyms)
have a great time, gobos are your friends. *nodnod*
Gobos are awesome! Have fun 4-eyes

Have a great time. I'm sure you will learn a lot and make some new friends. Just don't forget about us. Find some laptop and drop us a line. Stay out of trouble, young man!

Everything is awesome down here at WSU. I have met some great people (mostly in the performance theatre camp...none of the techies are actually really interested in tech theatre). Today we are going downtown Dayton to the Human Race Theatre for class. It should be fun. I am still praying we get to do learn about lighting. On Friday, we are having a performance. I am looking foward to that. Talk to you soon!

Well, we are having rec time right now. Today was great! Like I said, we took a field trip downtown to The Loft Theatre, home of the Human Race Theatre Company. We are working with their technical director. Today we got most of the minimal set built. Tomorrow we will finish and start to paint and Wed. we will finish painting. On Thursday, we are loading the set, lights, and props into the theatre we are performing in. We will also hang and focus the lights then. I am hoping to run the light board for the show. Scott, the tech director, also is trying to hook up a tour of the historic Victoria Theatre. I am looking foward to another fun day tomorrow. I mostly hang out with the theatre kids, but the techies are fun also. Talk to you soon!

Wow, it feels so cool to be sitting in a college library. LOL. Today I had an excellent talk with the Tech Director. Finally, tomorrow we are going to start working with the lights. The set is built and painted. All we have to do it put some finishing touches on it and we are done (well, move it to the theatre space). Highlight of my day: he took us on a tour through the historic Victoria Theatre, a union presenting theatre. It was AMAZING. He showed us how the fly system worked and we got to go up to where they load weights. Backstage, they had signed posters from all of the tours that have performed there. Very cool. Oh, and I corrected the teacher when he said IATSE meant something else...I told her the right meaning. Today was my favorite day.
WOW! that really sounds like a lot of fun. Seems like my kind of camp.

Today was kind of boring. The set is finished and it looks great! Tomorrow is the day I have been waiting for: we are hanging and focusing lights.
