I have absolutely no idea, so to deflect from my lack of knowledge, let me point out my new avatar...GEORGE TAPPS, who replaced Gene Kelly as PAL JOEY on Broadway when Mr. Kelly left the show to pursue Hollywood stardom!

YES, the film version of PAL JOEY made MANY changes to the stage version--including a shift of locale from Chicago to San Francisco.
