I used this last year for FREE, and now it seems that when you click on the FREE version, complete your forms, somehow it "converts" to TurboTax DELUXE (somewhere along the line), and then tries to charge you for both Fed AND State E-filings. WTF? I deleted, and tried going through it again, and same thing happened? Any similar stories, or suggestions for a FREE legit on-line secure site (for the 1040 or 1040EZ)? Thanks.

TurboTax will do your Federal for free, tiny. When I did mine, it asked me a couple of times along the way if I wanted to upgrade to the Deluxe which would include state filing. I just declined and was able to efile my Federal for free.

I love TurboTax because they remember everything you did last year and guide you accordingly. Plus the direct deposit refund takes less than two weeks in most cases.

I think there was a government program last year that allowed folks within certain income brackets to file both state and federal for free. I remember it being featured in the 1040 booklet they sent me. That's what led me to TurboTax. But I don't believe that program exists this year. (I did end up going back a few days later and adding my state return for $19. I decided it was worth it to avoid hunting down forms, etc.)
