ELTico~ Some Jewish people don't write G-d's full name because you are not allowed to destroy or throw away anything with G-d's name on it. If you leave out a letter, it isn't his full name, so you don't have to worry about not ruining it. I think this is right, someone please correct me if I am wrong.

I was taught to write G-d. However in prayer books it is written out. Prayer books are never thrown out and are buried with people.

I also wanted to say thanks to you all for sharing this holiday. As a non-really-religious-raised-catholic person, I am always intrigued by other people's religious holidays. I find it very interesting. I love to share my holidays with all my friends, and am grateful when others share their holidays with me.

I drove through Borough Park today and all the hassidic Jews were out in the street, the children dressed in colorful and funny costumes. They really have a great time on this holiday.
