Hey everyone! I'm trying to convert some of my Windows Media Video files so I can put them on my iPod and I was wondering if anyone here has a good video converter they could recommend me to do that?
Thanks!

Posted: 12/4/05 at 10:24pmYou usually have to pay for this type of software. Go to Google and search for something like "Convert into .mov" in those quotations.

Posted: 12/4/05 at 11:37pmYou can probably find a few free programs that will do that for you, over at download.com.

Download.com has some converters, but normally the trials only convert about five minutes of movie.
I am in the same boat as you (kind of.) My friend made a home movie for me and put it on DVD and I would like to change the VOB files on the DVD to a file type that would work with Windows Movie Maker...no such luck yet, and I don't have the money to buy all that software.

Posted: 12/19/05 at 2:43pmI use AVS Video Converter 3 the newer one (4) is a lot better but I think mine can do .mov files. I never use it but its just on my computer. I loved it the times I used to it.

Posted: 12/19/05 at 2:48pmI use Advanced X Video Converter. It's really easy to understand. You can get it at download.com. The only problem is, unless you pay for it, parts of your videos get effed up.

can you even put videos on your iPod that haven't been purchased through iTunes?
I've tried and I can't figure out how to do it...
Any idea? If that is the case, I'm pissed at Apple. Those tricky little bastards.

Posted: 12/21/05 at 8:02pmBUMP instead of making a new one I'll post it on here. I use AVS but realized that it doesn't have .mov files and I think I am getting a video ipod and I want to put a few videos I have on it but need to convert them. Do they have to be .mov files? Or can they just be an mpeg or whatever. Also if anyone has any more suggestions for a free or very reliable one that will convert to .mov.

Posted: 12/21/05 at 8:09pmGood we can beg for someone to answer together. I really think that a video Ipod is in the box that got delivered to my house and I leave Saturday for vacation so if really quick I could get a video on there I could be set! If not I will just probably convert it to a dvd which I can do and just put it on a dvd and watch in a dvd player. I have an ipod mini but it would of been nice not doing bringing all of it!

I downloaded a free trial program (it converts the first 5 minutes of videos). I forgot what it's called...I'll post it when I get home. I got it from download.com. All you need it to be transferred to is mp4 video.
er something. It even transfers .wmv files!
