Of course not. Not any more inevitable than the genesis of life on this planet. A combination of error, luck and chance fuels the appearance of all life forms and the qualities associated with them in the universe. So it goes with humans and music.

When early humans first pounded on stretched animal skins, blew through reeds or conch shells or raised their voices in shrill warbles, they were doing so to communicate. The hunters and gatherers out in the jungle or savannah needed to be alerted to what was going on at home. The various rhythms and notes conveyed a message. They also could be used as warnings to members of strange tribes approaching. So, if these rhythms and notes developed out of necessity, it was inevitable that they had to develop. It may not be inevitable that they had to become a form of entertainment.

Since we have music...it would seem that indeed it was inevitable. DUH!
Aren't questions about inevitablity usually asked about questions that haven't already been answered? For instance. Is it inevitable that Papalovesmambo and Namo will procreate and start a new species??
