When good showtunes go horribly wrong
#0When good showtunes go horribly wrong
Posted: 6/27/05 at 9:45pmI'm watching American's Junior Miss Competition (bored, yes, yes, I am) and one of the finalists is singing "Summertime" like it's a Las Vegas lounge act.

Posted: 6/27/05 at 9:50pmAhh, Junior Miss. I'm the only one on this whole board who will even admit to having done a pageant, so I'm guessing I'm not going to get any fellow-Junior-Miss love on this board - ah, well. How's it look this year?

"Summertime" is a CLASSIC for pageants. That, and "Memory."
May the record state that for my talent, I did a 90-second paring-down of JRB's "Stars and the Moon," which I arranged myself. No CATS for me!

Posted: 6/27/05 at 9:57pmKind of weird, watching these "younger oriented" pageants. You can tell which girls have been doing it all their lives.

Posted: 6/27/05 at 10:00pmYou don't get to that level unless you've been doing it all your life. You have to know how to play the game.

Posted: 6/27/05 at 10:05pmNot watching it but I suppose we can be glad that the young ladies aren't butchering "Defying Gravity" or "For Good"! That comes NEXT year!

Posted: 6/27/05 at 10:13pmI tried watching some of that, but I just couldn't look. I think I just disproved the theory of not being able to take one's eyes off a carwreck.

The girl from California got the interview award? Good god, WHY? Her answer was "Uh, yeah, I did the research for a school project".
GO INDIANA GIRL.

Posted: 6/27/05 at 10:54pmReally? Who is the Indiana girl? I wish I had PAX TV!

Posted: 6/27/05 at 10:56pmHOLY PAGEANT PRINCESS... I went to high school with her! I was in choir with her!

Posted: 6/27/05 at 10:57pmShe just got 2nd runner-up. She was the one who said that Julie Andrews was the person she most admired.

Posted: 6/27/05 at 10:57pmMAN I wish I had PAX! (Wow, first time I've ever said that one.) What was her talent?
#17re: When good showtunes go horribly wrong
Posted: 6/27/05 at 11:06pmShe sang an aria.
#18re: When good showtunes go horribly wrong
Posted: 6/27/05 at 11:23pm... and quite beautifully, too.
