Okay, I'm sure a lot of you remember the "Friends" episode when Joey and Ross see who can name all 50 states. Joey comes up with 56 though. Anyway, let's see who can name all 50 WITHOUT looking at a map or anything that has states on it lol. It's harder than it sounds. I'll start.
Massachusetts
North Dakota
South Dakota
New York
California
Iowa
Texas
Pennsylvania
Idaho
New Hampshire
Vermont
Maine
Ohio
Washington
Michigan
Florida
Minnesota
Utah
Wisconsin
Crap! I can't think of anymore!
heres some you forgot:
hawaii
alaska
new mexico
oklahoma
georgia
south carolina
north carolina
Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia (technically not a state - so this list should show 51), Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin, Wyoming
No, I didn't copy this off of somewhere. I've been staring at these lists for years - it's my job. This is so sad. Of course, you never know when it will come in handy in the outside world - on a Broadway Off-Topic board, for example.
I need a new life.
alabama
kansas
montana
mississippi

WAKKO'S AMERICA (Episode 21)
Music traditional (Turkey in the Straw). Lyrics by Randy Rogel.
Wakko:
Baton Rouge, Louisiana; Indianapolis, Indiana
And Columbus is the capital of Ohio
There's Montgomery, Alabama, south of Helena, Montana
Then there's Denver, Colorado, under Boise, Idaho.
Texas has Austin, then we go north
To Massachusetts' Boston, and Albany, New York
Tallahassee, Florida, and Washington, D.C.
Santa Fe, New Mexico, and Nashville, Tennessee.
Elvis used to hang out there a lot, ya know.
Trenton's in New Jersey, north of Jefferson, Missouri
You've got Richmond in Virginia; South Dakota has Pierre
Harrisburg's in Pennsylvania and Augusta's up in Maine
And here is Providence, Rhode Island, next to Dover, Delaware.
Concord, New Hampshire, just a quick jaunt
To Montpelier, which is up in Vermont
Hartford's in Connecticut, so pretty in the fall
And Kansas has Topeka; Minnesota has St Paul.
Juneau's in Alaska and there's Lincoln in Nebraska
And it's Raleigh out in North Carolina and then
There's Madison, Wisconsin, and Olympia in Washington
Phoenix, Arizona, and Lansing, Michigan.
Here's Honolulu; Hawaii's a joy
Jackson, Mississippi, and Springfield, Illinois
South Carolina with Columbia down the way
And Annapolis in Maryland on Chesapeake Bay.
They have wonderful clam chowder.
Cheyenne is in Wyomin' and perhaps you make your home in
Salt Lake City out in Utah, where the Buffalo roam
Atlanta's down in Georgia, and there's Bismarck, North Dakota
And you can live in Frankfort in your old Kentucky home.
Salem in Oregon; from there we join
Little Rock in Arkansas; Iowa's got Des Moines
Sacramento, California; Oklahoma and its city
Charleston, West Virginia, and Nevada, Carson City.
That's all the capitals there are!
KelRel, you gave a musical answer! Fantastic! Bravissimo!!!

I too, can list all 50 states off the top of my head in alphabetical order. In under a minute. Been able to do it since I was 9.
If in Heaven you don't excel, you can always party down in hell...
I actually did it while watching a Friends episode, in whatever the alloted time was(minute). I got 49. it's really sad when I realized the one I forgot...Pennsylvania.
I am sure I am the not the only one that learned the "50 Nifty United States" song in elementary school... put something to song and you will remember it forever.
"fifty nifty united states from thirteen original colonies..."
thats how i learned them in alphabetical order... once you hear that song, you'll never forget them
i know that song too! i sung it in elementary school god knows how many times. but i'll always know every state in alphabetical order because of it!

haha that animaniacs song is hysterical. i have it on my computer. but we sang this one in elementary school:
when i was young i studied US geography. my teacher said 'you should stand up and list the states for me.' my knees began a-knocking, my words came out all wrong. then suddenly i burst out in this silly little song:
alabama and alaska, arizona, arkasas. california, colorado and connecticut and more. delaware florida georgia, hawaii idaho. illinois, indiana, iowa, still 35 to go. ooh-ooh-ooh.
kansas and kentucky, louisiana, maine. maryland massachusetts, and good old michigan. minnesota mississippi missouri and montana. nebraskas 27, number 28s nevada. ooh-ooh-ooh.
next new hampshire and new jersey and way down new mexico. theres new york, north carolina, north dakota, ohio. oklahoma, oregon, pennsylvania, now lets see...rhode island, south carolina, south dakota, tennessee.
texas and utah, vermont, im almost through. virginia then theres washington and west virginia too. is wisconsin the last one or is it 49? no wyoming is the last state in the 50 states that rhyme.
when i sat down all out of breath, my teacher said, 'thats great! im quite impressed you were the best at listing all the states. now if you want to get an a for that silly little rhyme, stand back up and sing that song but do it double time.'
so yeah...LOL. good song
I know them all in alphabetical order too.. I sang a song in elementary school choir called "50 nifty United States" and there was a "rap" section that featured as spewing off all 50 states in alphabetical order.. I've never forgotten it
Vid of me singing "Wishing You Were Somehow..." POTO
"Hard to see the light now. Just don't let it go. Things will come out right now. We can make it so. Someone is on your side... NO ONE is alone!"
I know a rap like that, but instead of all 50 states, it's for all the South American countries and their capitals.
now THAT i'd like to hear lol

"Fifty nifty united states from thirteen original colonies,
Fifty nifty united states...*mumbles made up words*
Shout'em, scout'em! Tell all about'em! 1-by-1..."
WTF am I saying? I don't remember the song at all. I remember about half the states...I was in love with that song. I had to switch elementary schools and on my first day-we sang that song...needless to say, that's where I got my love for Broadway from.
(OK, that's a lie-it's just my post was looking really lame.)

Now can anyone else name all of the capitols?
And how about abbreviations?
I dare you...
fifty nifty united states
from 13 original colonies
fifty nifty stars on the flag
that billows so beautifully in the breeze
each individual state
contributes a quality that is great
each individual state
deserves a bow
lets salute them now!
no, i don't have the song downloaded :P

THANK YOU Zepka!! God, it has been driving me insane not knowing the opening for the last 7 years!
In like third grade, I had to learn a song with all fifty states in alphabetical order - actually, it WAS that "fifty nifty" thing. I can now (still) recite them all, in like under fifteen seconds.
