Wireless Internet question

Ok I just got a wireless router for christmas. And I know I should be asking this to some CompUSA tech or a guy a Circuit City but usually they are Computer Science majors on break. Who are insufferable pricks and talk down to anyone with social skills beyond online gaming. (Sorry bad experiance with a simple question I was laughed at for 2 years ago)
Anyways...does anyone here have wireless? And wold they recomend I go with the desktop card or the Usb Desktop adapter?
Do I need both? and which one is better?
Hope someone knows!

Posted: 12/27/04 at 3:13pmI've always had better results with a PCI card. If you're comfortable installing it, I'd say to go that route. USB is more of a luxury so technologically challenged people can add components without freaking out too bad. I generally save the USB port for things that I frequently unplug and re-plug (digital camera, iPod). Wireless is something you'll probably want to keep in there full time, so the desktop card will be less obtrusive and probably faster than an external USB connection.

First off thanks for the input matt.
All the research I've done says the speed is the same. I'm not to concerned about tying up the USB port and I can always get a splitter box if I need to hook up my printer again.
I'll install the card, I just know the USB adapter would be less time consuming for me.
Thank you though.

Posted: 12/27/04 at 3:51pmtheoretically it's the same. USB 2.0 is capable of incredible speeds but is affected by a number of factors that are less likely to screw with a PCI connection. From personal experiences with USB LAN connections, I've noticed that it was fairly vulnerable to minor hardware problems that could crash the USB system, and the speeds would often be noticeably affected if I had a bunch of other USB devices running at the same time. PCI is solid as long as your motherboard wasn't made in the US, which I don't see why it would be.
