Posted: 5/19/05 at 12:42pmI went to the dentist yesterday. I have been told I need all four wisdom teeth out! (Top & Bottom). Who has been through this? any stories? does it kill?

I didn't have any wisdom teeth pulled, but I had a back tooth pulled... ask for sedation. I think it was versed. I'm not kidding. It doesn't compleatly knock you out, but it makes it so you don't care what they're doing.
I have my first wisdom tooth growing in right now. I now know why two year olds are so pissy all the time... teething hurts!

I only know my own situation, which was quite easy. I had all four of mine out at once, and was in-and-out of the office in under an hour. No problem healing, and was eating normally within a couple of days.
But I have heard some different tales from other people.

Had two of them taken out and they were impacted and the oral surgeon did not have an easy time of it. I couldn't lift my head up for a couple days, that side of my face was swollen. :::shivers:::

Posted: 5/19/05 at 12:52pmI had them pulled out in stages. Mine were impacted and coming in practically horizontal. The first one was a b!tch. The second one... same. The last two came out at the same time and were no problem.

Posted: 5/19/05 at 12:53pmGet it done at the dentist surgery and don't get knocked out completely. The only horror stories I have heard are from people that had their teeth removed under general anaesthetic in hospital. This put me off from having my impacted wisdom tooth out for ELEVEN YEARS. I finally plucked up the courage, went to the dentist and had the impacted tooth out (and the wisdom tooth above it) under heavy sedation and I was fine. Had minimal swelling and a couple of days of pain, but have been thankful every day since that I don't have to deal with my impacted teeth anymore.

Posted: 5/19/05 at 12:53pmI had all four of mine out at the same time. My dentist gave me the drugs and it was painless. The hard part was that I could only eat things like soup and mashed potatoes when I was craving a hamburger.

I had all 4 out at the same time my senior year of college. I had mono at the time too, so it was not a good month.
I was totally drugged, teeth were pulled out fine, just hurt afterwards for a few days, but I didn't swell too much. The vicodin, tylenol 3, and whatever other pain meds they prescribed made me sick, so I didn't take anything which made it not the most pleasant experience. I just laid on my couch and watched movies all week.

Posted: 5/19/05 at 1:14pmI had all four taken out and it was okay - it was done on a Friday... lost all of Friday and most of Saturday (slept through it all) but by Saturday night I was almost back 100% - shouldn't be too traumatic. Good luck!

Posted: 5/19/05 at 1:19pmi had all mine out at the same time. they knocked me out, took all 4 out, and then gave me tylenol w/ codeine. needless to say, i was bouncing off the walls (codeine has that effect on me) for the rest of the day.
