Ok... I'm creating a Workout Mix on my iPod, and would like to know what people listen to when they workout. What would you suggest? I'm trying to get a good mix of stuff, not necessarily commercial. I'd like to hear of some obscure group/dj or something like that. Just fun, upbeat music that will encourage me to keep up the cardio and lift the weights.

Thanks for helping me expand my music horizons...

Hed Kandi (keep away from the chill-out stuff) has a great mix of house music that keeps the bass beat driving, as do most of the Ministry of Sound mixes...

Robbie Rivera also mixes it up pretty well with his stuff which is mainly more jungle house, though....

It's just me, but I listen to fast, upbeat classic rock songs. Preferably the works of Mr. Springsteen, and the live sets ("Ramrod," "Badlands," and "Born to Run" are favorites).

"During this performance, please feel free to let your cell phones and pagers ring willy-nilly. However, do remember that there are heavily-armed knights on stage and you might well be dragged up and impaled." (Pre-curtain announcement at the new Broadway musical Monty Python's Spamalot)

ET - I was referring to step/aerobic music from a company that sells work out music. It is for my wife who is a certified fitness instructor and teaches step/power pumb, BOSU and that stuff.

She uses one of those Old Navy dics for her power pump.

I love working out to that techno song "I Like It" and Kelly Clarkson. However yesterday I listened to Now 9 and it made me run faster I think....i did go double the distance in the same amount of time. I like working out to lostprophets and the used too.

Anything by The Clash, Joan Jett, Faith No More, The Donnas, Beastie Boys, Kylie Minogue, Supersuckers. The Run Lola Run soundtrack, Garbage, Electric Six (did they break up?), Scissor Sisters...and, weirdly enough, a collection of Bernard Hermann score selections...the "North By Northwest" theme is ideal for fast moments on the elliptical.

"Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.” ~ Muhammad Ali
