Most glaring problems:
12 Kurt Cobain of Nirvana
13 Jerry Garcia of the Grateful Dead
45 Frank Zappa
70 Eddie Van Halen
82 David Gilmour of Pink Floyd
85 Randy Rhoads
In what universe is Kurt Cobain a better guitarists then Garcia, Zappa, Van Halen, Gilmour and Rhoads?

David Gilmour 82?????? I don't think so.
Yeah, it seems pretty bogus...even though he's relatively new and I'm not even much of a fan (I liked Inside Wants Out and he steadily went downhill from there), isn't John Mayer a pretty accomplished guitarist? Bear in mind I've been awake for all of 9 minutes, so I may come back and look at this later and say, WTF was I thinking. Just a thought...But yeah, Curt Cobain was ahead of quite a few that I think were rather bogus!
ETA: OK, after waking up a little more, I'm taking the JM thing back. What about Peter Buck from REM? And don't ya think Pete Townshend should be a smidge higher than 50??
Van Halen at 70?!
Well, Van Halen's always been overrated -- he's really a one-trick pony. I mean Kirk Hammett at #12? He's a terrible player. Mark Knofler should be higher. Richie Blackmore should be much higher. Slash is a super player who should be over a lot of those guys. Richie Sambora of Bon Jovi is a great blues player that should be ahead of a lot of those guys.
It seems like it's trying way too hired to appease the sixties leftover crowd that stopped reading Rolling Stone when Britney Spears was on the cover.
ok, any list that omits the man jimi hendrix called the greatest guitarist in the world, phil keaggy, is seriously suspect. but townsend at 50 is about right since a lot of those solos from the early who hits were played by others. case in point, the solo on can't explain was played by jimmy page. i also don't see how you can you can leave chet atkins off any list that involves the guitar. but let's recall that this is the same magazine that picked the knack as the new beatles.
Wow this is way old news. This list came out back in 03.
They did get two things right in my opinion though, Duane Allman at 2 and Hendrix at 1
Well, I've come to the conclusion that my entire 1st post might as well be stricken from the record. Apparently I need a few hours to get going in the morning (it did take be 3 looks over the list to find Carlos Santana this morning...pathetic...and I didn't even notice the date).
<3 Kurt... ^_^
Pete Townshend at #50?!! Total B.S.
