#3re: are you ready for some football?

#4re: are you ready for some football?
Posted: 8/6/06 at 4:07pmomg! it may be just me but it seems that everytime i start a football thread, someone feels compelled to make it about musicals. what is it about people at broadway world that makes them have to turn everything to musical theatre? i know i'm gonna get grief about this and i'm ready for your slings and arrows and innuendoes.

Posted: 8/6/06 at 6:44pmI get really confused, because where I am when you say football it means soccer, in the countryside if you say football people think you mean Gaelic Football, which is sompletely different, and over there you mean American football. It's all a bit confusing, even though I know which one you're on about, I'm still thinking soccer.
deep-delving, dark, deliberate you would say

our sky-blue slates are steaming in the sun,
our yachts tinkling and dancing in the bay
like racehorses. We contemplate at last
shining windows, a future forbidden to no one.

i'm an american. as such soccer doesn't really exist other than as a diversion during the sumer olympics and whenever the world cup is played (what is it, do they just arbitrarily pick years and start calling around, "dudes, we're gonna do it this year!"). even then it's less than a fleeting thing.
although i understand your dilemma. i had an irish bartender patiently (hah!) explain to me once that, "they don't f***ing use their feet at all, do they? for christ sakes it ought to f***ing be called handball, shouldn't it?"
but be that as it may, it's football here in the states, both the nfl and the ncaa varieties, and it owns the fall.

i dunno, elphie. i think usc and cal are gonna be 1-2 and i'm going way the frick out on a limb and betting on stoops to have arizona way further along than anyone'll give him credit for.
pac 10's gonna be murder on each other week in week out, though, so it would not surprise me to see oregon slip into the #3 slot out there, but i'm thinking 'zona's gonna show something.

Posted: 8/6/06 at 7:31pmonly thing AZ shows is how bad it is every year.......and Cal was over-rated last year. Frankly SC will have a time of it taking the conf.......but I do not think Oregon will end lower than third

I enjoy college (GO AGGIES!) over NFL, but, since we're talking NFL and not college (GO AGGIES!) my loyality is to the Dallas Cowboys.
