These SO apply to me!
*Schoolhouse Rock actually helped me learn my multiplication tables and the Preamble (which I can still recite)
*it pisses me off when ADULTS call me ma'am (I'm only 20! That makes me a "miss," thank you!)
*the Crypt Keeper scared the hell out of me
*Duck Tales! Ah-WOO-ooh!
* I LOVED Puond Puppies, and I think I still have them somewhere
*I wanted a slap bracelet SO badly
*I still think Doogie Howser is hot...

Posted: 2/10/05 at 11:06amMe thinks a lot of those items came from being a child of the 70s. For example, Colecovision came out in I believe 84 (or earlier) and didn't last that long. Schoolhouse Rock was also the 70s...

I think my family may have been behind the times. I was born in '86, and I remember a LOT of this stuff, too!
I'm also reminded of our computer when I was little: a Commodore 64. That thing rocked.

When I was young, it seemed that life was so wonderful,
a miracle, oh it was beautiful, magical.
And all the birds in the trees, well they'd be singing so
happily,
joyfully, playfully watching me.
But then they send me away to teach me how to be sensible,
logical, responsible, practical.
And they showed me a world where I could be so dependable,
clinical, intellectual, cynical.
There are times when all the world's asleep,
the questions run too deep
for such a simple man.
Won't you please, please tell me what we've learned
I know it sounds absurd
but please tell me who I am.
Now watch what you say or they'll be calling you a radical,
liberal, fanatical, criminal.
Won't you sign up your name, we'd like to feel you're
acceptable, respectable, presentable, a vegetable!
At night, when all the world's asleep,
the questions run so deep
for such a simple man.
Won't you please, please tell me what we've learned
I know it sounds absurd
but please tell me who I am.

I was a child in the 80's, not a teenager in the 80's but a lot of those still apply to me.
I remember looking forward to "Oregon Trail days" in computer class. Ah, the old computers that had only DOS. haha.

What is Oregon Trail Days??
Also:
You were more interested in watching Elvira than the movie she was promoting
You stayed up late at night (I think it was Sunday night) to listen to Dr. Ruth because she told you everything you wanted to know but were afraid to ask

For the record:
Dirty Dancing WAS a really good movie and STILL IS.
You weren't really cool wearing an Izod shirt with the collar up unless you were wearing more than one and they were different colors.
When Skippy and Mallory were trapped in the basement was my personal favorite.
Banana Republic and Benetton were not as cool as Panama Jack or Units.
The first Atari came with Combat and Outer Space and had sharp corners rather than rounded.
I never had a Glow Worm, but my cousin had an Inch Worm.
Voltron was way cooler than Thundercats. The space version was the best, but was not shown as much.
Micronauts are probably the greatest toy ever created. I had the remote-controlled Star Cruiser.
Martha Quinn WAS MTV. MTV used to play music videos. That is where the name came from.
Not only did Florida break down when James died, she broke the big punchbowl and yelled, "DAMN! DAMN! DAMN!" which I yell on occasion myself when life gets a little too overwheling. Historical television moment.
Not only did I have a pair of Jordache jeans, but I remember the infamous commercial with the guy walking into the bar that focused primarily on his ass. We need those kinds of jeans again.
I notice there was no mention of the metallic silver and gold purses with matching belts and shoes or the popular paint-splatter motif found on practically everything. And how about those painter's caps. I like the ones with the flaps in the back that cover your neck. Those were vicious.
I did not discover Kool and the Gang's "Celebration" at a school dance. That is how I discovered "Get Down On It".
My brother and I played MASH all the time. It was best with pencils because the lines were thicker. Just be sure not to make your dot too big.
Before my family got cable or a VCR, I would go to my friend's house and watch movies on his Beta and argue over which was the best Asia song.
I have never heard of Oregon Trail.
I knew all 101 Uses For a Dead Cat.
Murphy's Law was hilarious.
I had checkerboard Vans AND rainbow suspenders AND a Lightning Bolt velcro wallet AND a hooded baseball t-shirt.
I listened to the Valley Girl soundtrack on LP and memorized all the lyrics. I also remember WHY Nicholas Cage's character was considered so freakish. If you weren't from the era, you will watch the movie and have no idea what the big deal is.
When I see Sarah Jessica Parker I immediately hear "Square Pegs! Square Pegs! Square...Square...PEGS! (One size does not fit all)" in my head.
I never peeled the stickers off a Rubik's Cube. I learned how to take the blocks apart and put them back together.

i kind of miss leg warmers when it's cold out. i heard they were making a comeback, but who knows, it never gets cold enough here for me to know if they're coming back or not.

"I grew up on five-alive
And transformers and slip-n-slide
Toys 'R' Us and Chuck E. Cheeze
Disco out and techno in
to synthesize my favorite sin
And here I am on my knees
To get it back again
Babies of the 80s
Little girls in lycra shorts
Tented beds, nerf contact sports
My babies of the 80s
Shout it out just one more time
For the generation that was all mine
We learned to crawl on linoleum floors
Ronald Regan fought Star Wars
But he'll never be Han Solo
Students march Tienemen Square
They took him out; hey that's not fair
Dad said it's good to be free
As we watched from our T.V.
Babies of the 80s
Little girls in lycra shorts
Tented beds, nerf contact sports
My babies of the 80s
Shout it out just one more time
For the generation that was all mine
We watched the wall fall down
Woke up early for Bozo the clown
MTV and Nick at Nite
And I slept for the first time
Without the light
without the light
without the light
My Babies of the 80's
Little girls in jelly shoes
Got the Ferris Bueller blues
My babies of the 80s
I guess we could be something after all
Who knew?
Yes, we could be something after all
Who knew?
Yes we would be something after all
Who Knew?"
~ Something Corporate, "Babies of the 80s"
Yes, it's true. I was born in the 80s.
