Greetings from West 43rd St, Manhattan, NY, 1 block from tomorrow's Times Square lunacy. It's eerily, creepily quiet on the streets tonight . Not 1 English speaking person at the pizza joint this afternoon. I LOVE that!! Met people from India, China, Norway, Italy, Britain, Italy in that 1 tiny joint.
The pizza sucks, though.
The "holding pens" (ha!!) in TS are being completed, and people are already lining up. I don't get it, being jaded, but I guess it's a blast if you've never been here before. No crowds for me...too old!? I'll be partying from the 26th floor, overlooking the area. The "noise" of 1,000,000 (approx. people) never ceases to amaze me, living so close. It's a weird, unique sound, even with the window closed.
Will you be partying, Harris?
The logistics of turning 38th-54th st - 6th-8th Ave. basically into a "pedestrian mall" (NO traffic) must be a nightmare for other parts of town. I always think how amazing it is, when you walk around the next day, and literally TONS of trash and confetti is COMPLETELY cleaned. Somebody's makin' overtime! I LOVE NY!!

This year the "Rockin' New Year's Eve" has a whole new meaning for me.
My office (and our whole department, actually) is now in the old Dick Clark Productions building in Burbank. We've found photos of Mr. Clark with various celebrities tucked away all over the place.
But as a kid, I always watched him drop his balls.
Fond memories.

Is it just me, or does anybody else kind of wish that the ball would explode when it reaches the bottom?
I was always dissapointed as a kid, and still am today. Why the big countdown if it's just going to come to a gentle rest at the bottom?

I'll have you know, I've never played a video game in my life!
In fact, every time my guy friends have tried to teach me, I get stuck in corners and can't seem to figure out how to turn around.
I think it was because my parents hyped it up so much on my first NYE awake until midnight. I though for sure something huge was about to happen!

Posted: 12/31/07 at 11:25amDGG - I didn't want the ball to explode but I always expected fireworks to start shooting up from the base of that pole when the ball hit the bottom. Not getting those was always a letdown. Just today I read that they started using the ball when the city outlawed fireworks! Who knew?

I didn't want the ball to explode just for explosions sake. Rather, I'd just like something BIG to happen!
I'm sure it's much more exciting to be there than to watch it on television.
