iPod not connecting to my computer...

Hey you guys--my iPod stopped connecting to my computer 2 days ago, and I have no idea why. I didn't download any new software or anything. I've tried disconnecting and reconnecting it countless times. I just went to the iPod support site--and did what they said to do, but nothing helped. I've reinstalled my iTunes, reset my iPod and restarted my computer. I can't restore my iPod...because that requires it to be connected to the computer. I thought maybe it was my cord, so I ran downstairs to a different computer, plugged it in--synched PERFECTLY with iTunes. For some reason, it won't connect with my laptop anymore though. in the bottom right hand corner of my Windows, a message pops up saying, "Device not recognized. One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows cannot recognize it."

Does anyone have any ideas as to what I can do? I would just use my restoration CD and restore my laptop--because I've needed to do that anyways--but I need my iPod as an external hard drive to back up my files. Otherwise, I'll be stuck burning all my files to CDs which will take days. Thanks in advance!

This happened to me a while ago. All I did was restart my laptop and then it worked. Good luck.

Do you have multiple USB ports on your laptop? Maybe there is something wrong with the one you are usually using?

yes, I've tried putting it in the other ones--and each time I get the same message.

my USB ports will read my memory card though. :-/

do you have an Apple store near you? If you bring your laptop and your iPod the geniuses are really helpful...

eh too lazy. I just backed up all my files. Only took 4 CDs. A lot of the files (songs) are on my iPod, so I'll just put them back on my computer once I restore the computer.

Weird...my computer STILL won't recognize it. Frustrating. Might as well just get a new computer. This one is going faster now, though.
