I second that. Time Out is probably my all-time favorite album.

If you like vocals: Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, Ann Hampton Callaway.

re: jazz

I think it's very exciting that someone like Ann Hampton Callaway is carrying on the jazz vocal tradition so beautifully, and that she is around for us to experience live.

for vocal jazz -- mel torme is a master. and shirley horne was as great an artist as there ever was. for instumentalists?
wow - there are so many!! for sax, i love ART PEPPER. absolutely like doing one of the old qualuudes. miles davis, bill evans -- wow -- how i envy you -- to discover all those greats all over again!!!!
Ps. Yes, I think AH Callaway is a great singer - she is a full-on vocal goddess, not a quirky singer. There are lots of different stylists out there. If you want a more contemporary soft style singer, look into Lizz Wright. Or the very classic BLOSSOM DEARIE. her verve msters cd can't be beat.

Takes notes, I've yet to listen to "real old people jazz" I'm still into Diana Krall, Peter Cincotti, Michael Buble, and Norah Jones. I'm sure the older stuff is better, though. And someday I'll get around to it.

I have NEVER met Cheyenne Jackson. I have never hung out with him in his dressing room, he did not tweet me, he never bought me a beverage, and he mostly certainly didn't tickle me. . .that is all.

soapy, if you're into the current artists, you need to check out Callaway.

You won't be sorry.

Of current artists, Lorraine Feather is also worth investigating, as is Dianne Reeves (especially the soundtrack to GOOD NIGHT, AND GOOD LUCK.)

Are you mostly interested in vocal jazz?

I gotta tell you, Peter Cincotti is not so well regarded. In fact -- he is pretty bad. Lotta money behind him though. For men, my vote goes to Curtis Stigers.

I not a big fan of any of his remakes, but alot of his original music I REALLY like. But, I will look up Mr. Stigers
