I think it's very exciting that someone like Ann Hampton Callaway is carrying on the jazz vocal tradition so beautifully, and that she is around for us to experience live.

for vocal jazz -- mel torme is a master. and shirley horne was as great an artist as there ever was. for instumentalists?
wow - there are so many!! for sax, i love ART PEPPER. absolutely like doing one of the old qualuudes. miles davis, bill evans -- wow -- how i envy you -- to discover all those greats all over again!!!!
Ps. Yes, I think AH Callaway is a great singer - she is a full-on vocal goddess, not a quirky singer. There are lots of different stylists out there. If you want a more contemporary soft style singer, look into Lizz Wright. Or the very classic BLOSSOM DEARIE. her verve msters cd can't be beat.

soapy, if you're into the current artists, you need to check out Callaway.
You won't be sorry.
