ok - i'm planning a sweet 16 and need to give the dj some song suggestions but i know very little about current popular dance music - anybody got any suggestions?
the girl does like broadway so there can be some showtunes (like time warp) but not too many as the majority of the guests won't be interested
thanks in advance!!

NOT TOO MANY SHOWTUNES! WELL, I'M OUT..
Only kidding.
Just get lotsa Britney Spears (Toxic and junk like that), Usher (blaah), or one of the Simpson sisters in the play list to please the rest of the folks.
I hope I helped!

So... why do you care what people think?
If you want popular music, just tell your DJ that.
Outkast.

Or you should play classical and see what happens.
"Toxic" by Britney Spears is good, and probably her only current song I don't hate now. And what's a party without those old Disco/Funk songs? Especially one's with dance:
"Electric Slide"
"Cotton-Eyed Joe"
"Car Wash"
"I Will Survive"
"Hustle"
"Superfreak"
"YMCA"
Ever heard of the "Cha Cha Slide"? Try to check on local radio websites and if they have a playlist. I'm sure you could go on those artist's websites then, and hear some sound clips.

All I can think of is Sixteen Candles and Sixteen Going on Seventeen.
When I was in high school the most popular songs were:
Twist and Shout - The Beatles
Rock Lobster - B-52's
Time Warp - Rocky Horror
I've Had the Time of My Life - Dirty Dancing
Shout - The Blues Brothers
Let's Go Crazy - Prince
Micky - Toni Basil
We Got the Beat - Go-Go's
Venus - Bananarama
One Night in Bangkok - Chess
I Melt With You - Modern English
Don't You Forget About Me - Simple Minds
St. Elmo's Fire - John Parr
Respect - Aretha Franklin
Think - Aretha Franklin
The Reflex - Duran Duran
