My little sister who is having a birthday next week is a self-proclaimed "Anime/Manga Freak." Since I have absolutely no knowledge of that world, (seriously, NO knowledge), and she lives 3000+ miles away so I also have no clue as to what she already owns, etc., I was thinking about getting her some type of gift certificate/gift card that she could use to buy whatever Anime/Manga she wants and doesn't have yet.
So my questions for those of you who know this world:
What is a good source for Anime/Manga?
I mean, if I get her an amazon.com or B&N.com gift cert would that work, do they have a good selection?
Is there a better website/store I should get her a gift cert to?
(Should I just get her an AmEx gift card, so that she can shop wherever? :))
AnimeNation (http://www.animenation.com) and Anime Castle (http://www.animecastle.com) are two good stores for anime/manga merchandise that I know of, but I'm not as huge into anime as I used to be in middle school (now in college). Both those stores offer gift certificates, but Anime Castle only offers $25 ones, whereas AnimeNation has several increments.
In terms of just DVDs and manga and such, I know Amazon.com has plenty. I'm not sure how much other merchandise they have, however.
Hope that's somewhat helpful!
I would say go with the American Express gift card, b/c Amazon.com sells some nice box sets, but they don't always sell box sets for all of the series that are out there, goes the same way for different anime sites. I am sure though that she would know where to shop, so the American Express card seems to be the best route.
I've found Borders has the best manga selection, but they have very little in the way of DVDs. Even so, you could always get a Borders gift card. Everyone loves those!
And arapp721: Nice avatar.
Thanks for the suggestions everyone! I completely wasn't even thinking about dvds, etc.- I knew there are books, completely didn't think about other merchandise. I think I might just do the AmEx gift card, but that AnimeNation site looks like it has a lot of stuff, so that could be cool too- decisions, decisions...thanks again!
