I've noticed something heartening and disheartening regarding some of the 13 threads. The good news is that we are seeing new, younger posters joining us to discuss this show. Regardless of their age and experience, you can kinda feel the joy in their discovery of the art form some of us have loved for, um, er, a lot longer. It gives me hope to see tomorrow's audiences participating now.
The disheartening thing is that we, as a community in general, have been killing them. They may not have attended quite as many shows to compare this one to, they may confuse a review with a synopsis, and a soundtrack with a cast album; most of them weren't alive when Nathan Lane as Buzz explained the difference in 'Love! Valour! Compassion!' They probably don't understand that because a few people don't like a show, they must be bleeding idiots to have enjoyed it
If we want to review and discuss the young actors in 13s as adults because they're pulling in the same paycheck, fair enough, no exceptions or double standards for these young professionals (Definition: They get paid for it). My concern here is for the kids who were so excited about finding theatre, then a community to share their new-found love with, getting clobbered.
Yeah, I'm a shill in this respect. I work with young actors and would like to see these young folks, both those aspiring to the stage and in the audience, encouraged to be part of our community here and in the theatres. We're supposed to be the adults, but I wonder sometimes. We don't always treat each other very nicely here, but let's think twice before we post once when we're replying to da yutes. Thanks.
Tell them to watch THIS, bub.

This thread is like Communism- a good idea, but it can't possibly end well.

I guess I'm considered one of those "younger members" as much as I love your thread I have to say even of the kids who have seen 13, to know about this site they usually know a few things about the theatre.
Debbie is awesome, PalJoey, thanks for the link. I'm sure those kids performing at the Jacobs are discovering the joys of crowded dressing rooms, a full time job acting and rehearsing on top of a school day, living on the edge of exhaustion, stalking fans, the egos, and frailties of the business.
I guess my post was really directed at the new kids in the audiences inspired by the show to come here... sorry if you guys thought it was out of line. Someone will raise the 'right to free speech' argument and demonstrate the extent of their four letter vocabulary, but society is supposed to be cognizant of the wee bairn and behave accordingly around them too. I just didn't want to see them unnecessarily discouraged. Thanks for letting me try.

Your post isn't out of line, and it speaks the truth, but these kids are gonna have to learn what all the rest of us have learned.
There are just simply a lot of jerks stalking this board, they never have anything constructive to say, and after a while you figure out who these people are and then try your hardest not to even glance at what they write.
If these kids really want to be part of this community, they'll figure that out and the BS comments won't bother them 90% of the time, and the other 10% they will say something in defense and get chewed out like the rest of us.
