In the past, the Tony committee has nominated groups of people for awards. If anyone involved in the Tony nomination process is reading this--or if anyone reading this knows of anyone of a Tony nominator--I ask that the Cagelles in "La Cage aux Folles" be nominated for Best Featured Actor in a Musical. Saw the show last night, and was exhilarated by their work--during their big number, I was giddy in a way I rarely am at Broadway musicals these days. The show, as a whole, is not up to the Cagelles, but, then, I was heartened to be seeing a high-profile musical about two men singing about their love for each other, not once, but a number of times. OK, I do think they could have kissed first and then strolled away as the curtain fell, but enjoyed the show overall, nonetheless.

Examples, please? I know that sometimes special awards are given- for example, the producing team of Fiddler on the Roof got one when it became the longest-running musical ever. But I don't know how things like that would apply to the Cagelles.

The Von Trapp children in the original production of The Sound of Music were all nominated for Featured Actress in a Musical. They lost to their co-star, Patricia Neway.

Ah, okay. Now that I think about it, the entire cast of Kat and the Kings won an Olivier for Best Actor, which I thought was sort of weird. But how much acting do the Cagelles do? Updated On: 12/16/04 at 10:35 PM

They should definitely win a Tony. That dancing...my god.
They could be given the "special" Tony Award, the way the rotating principals for La Boheme were given a few years ago...
And this year, the cast of the Big River revival won the special Tony. Maybe it'll go to les Cagelles this year.
They NEED to win something. They were breath-taking.

Speaking of Olivier awards, the chorus of Jerry Springer the Opera won an award for Best Performance in a Supporting Role in a Musical (male and female compete in the same category).
