Does anyone know when the term "The Golden Age" was coined?

Word. Word, indeed.

As in the "Golden Age" of Broadway?

We refer to the 1950-early 1970's period when referring to tTHE GOLDEN AGE of Broadway, a la the documentary BROADWAY: THE GOLDEN AGE.

If you're speaking of U.S. History, or when the term was first used in general, I wouldn't know.

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."
