Posted: 1/1/05 at 9:55pmI finally saw "All Shook Up" today. It has the same over-eagerness to please that one often sees in aging hookers.

Lee you are not alone with the over aged hookers...
Broadway_Bound_Star understood what you meant...
I must be the only one that does not partake of such...

Posted: 1/2/05 at 12:58amSorry you feel that way about the show. Care to give and actual review rather than a quite stupid comment? Thanks.

I didn't think the comment was stupid.
I got what he meant.
The opposite of creation isn't war, it's stagnation.

Posted: 1/2/05 at 1:04amIf he was trying to be funny, it wasn't. I'd prefer an actual review of why leefowler thinks this. Not a comment with no reasoning.

I don't really think more of a review is needed.. leefowler obviously didn't like the show, which is fine, I'm sure a review would just rip apart a shows that isn't near being set yet.. it's just feeling its way seeing what works, what doesn't.
Andy ya know what, no matter what you say it's never really changes the other persons view on this board... I am def. beginning to see it is better to just say what you feel and know thats your point, rather then trying to fight off the beast of the boards..
Also no matter what show becomes the next Wicked or Hairspray or Producers there are still going to be people who have nothing nice to say about them (this is just a general statement) it's everyone's right ... the wars on the boards are just getting really old, we are like saying the same things over and over again.. The day everyone like the same show is the day Broadway will be dead.. diversity is needed for more shows to run.
Also I don't really find its needed to start a new post just to say something like that, and old post would have worked just fine for you, since you felt the need to say it.
My point of view on this show is it's a very fun show.. I which everyone felt that way..

i feel like a broken record today. i totally agree that differing tastes actually contribute to making broadway great. theres nothing wrong with not liking a show and/or person but it does help on a message board to try and articulate your opinion well and stick to constructive critiques.

I saw All Shook Up last night and thought it was terrific. I haven't really liked any of the catalog musicals, so I was expecting another ridiculous plot forced around random songs (a la Mamma Mia). But, this show was different. Since the songs are more generic (songs about love, lost love, unrequited love, etc.), they fit into the story much more easily. And since the plot of the show was just having the characters fall in love with each other, experience unrequited love, or craving lost love, it worked.
I was also surprised by the campy sense of humor in the show and the skilled delivery of the humor by the cast. The humor reminded me of Hairspray. The cast was perfect also. Cheyenne worked well as "Roustabout" and he was really, really pretty. Also excellent were Mark Price, Alix Korey and Sharon Wilkins. I'm also pretty taken by Curtis Holbrook.
As a jaded musical theatre fan, who's even a bit of a theatre snob, I have to say I was surprisingly entertained. Don't write off this show without seeing it.

YAY Menken Fan, I'm glad to hear you liked it, and I really like the way your presented your review! I agree with you very strongly that I people shouldn't turn there nose up at is before seeing it, I think a lot of people will be very surprised by it!
I live early this morning for Chicago, The friends I am visiting with and I are going to see it over the weekend! I can't wait to see it again!

Posted: 1/7/05 at 8:15amIt was a little sad seeing the small crowd there the night I attended. Now, it was a Wednesday night and there was a snowstorm. But, I don't think All Shook Up is selling very well, while Spamalot is essentially sold out for the run. I might pick up a half price ticket and see it again before it's done.

My assesment:
High school show with mediocre talent!! After the show my friend made the comment "Where did these people learn to sing, the elephant man school of music?" No one could stay on pitch(well actually Jenn Gambatese held her own with the music)
Positive: Jenn was cute and that's all I have to say about her.
Cheyenne has a nice voice. . .yeah thats it.
Mark Price was enjoyable.
Set was Fun. Lights were o/k.
My problem was not with the book or the music-I thought it worked. My problem is the performances.
It is a good thing I got the cheap seats and got upgraded to the orchestra.

Like the chapter on Merman's marriage to Ernest Borgnine in her autobiography, sometimes brevity can sum up an experience best!
Bravo, Lee.
