If children are never taken to the theatre when they are young, they will never learn to love theatre. What's wrong with plays for children?

I was long through childhood when the film came out and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Who is to say it will just be kiddie fare?

OP has to ask: "3, 2, 1. 1, 2, 3 - What the HECK is bothering me?" NEWSFLASH! Like *any* Dahl novel, it's a "children's story" with sprinkles of concept and theme above and beyond their understanding, dark(er) stances, characters, and of course, a moral for both sides of the spectrum. It's not just 'for kids' - My goodness. Any GOOD fan of literature knows that Dahl's works cater to no specific age group. As a boy, I can remember finding enjoyment in the fact that "I was reading something entertaining" - Surely, half of the stuff went over my head, but now, as a 21 yr. old, I can look back and the text (and) the film(s) for that matter, and embrace the stuff on a totally different level all together.

Has theatre lost its way? Isn't it the job of 'an evening out' to forget worries, cares, problems, and anguishes, and EMBRACE an evening of music and verse (or witty dialogue, for that matter), for a good 2.5 hours? Get swept away, why dontcha? If something DOES come of this stage adaptation, I'll be interested in following this story.

It's been said "There's truly no frigate quite like live theatre." Well, for one, that'll either hold truth or harness falsehoods 'cause we're on our way to experiencing no frigate "quite like James' Giant Peach".

...Maybe that's just me.

Exactly limelightmike. Just because a book is a "children's" book does NOT mean it's only for children. There is a lot to learn in sp-called "children's" books ~ for EVERYONE.

I guess now's not the time to mention that MCC is doing Coraline later this season, huh?
