Posted: 6/13/05 at 8:05pmThe show has probably run its course. It isn't as if it opened last month. Frankly, I never thought of Harvey Fierstein as much of a singer.

I saw Alfred in the role but what I heard was that Harvey was able to hit 2 notes and one of them was off key.

I heard Alfred displayed two emotions and one of them was boredom

Posted: 6/13/05 at 8:57pmCan someone explain Harvey Fierstein's appeal to me? Seriously. Maybe because I'm straight, but I just don't get it AT ALL. He can't sing at all - ok, so maybe he can write a good book (La Cage) but as a performer???

Posted: 6/13/05 at 9:03pmHonestly, if someone else wasplaying Tevye, I'd probably have gone back to see it a dozen more times. I saw Al twice, and loved him, but Harvey, uhm, Oy.It was painful to watch him u[ there, much less hear him. Mayhap he was good in teh 'Miscast' Fiddler where he portrayed Golde, but the fact that he has the gall to go on as Tevye truly makes me wonder...

Posted: 6/13/05 at 9:46pmI thought Alfred was good, not great, but good. But after the sets, I thought he was the best thing about the show...granted I'm not a fan of the show to begin with. Sure, Topol (the only one I have to compare him to) was better, but hey, he tried to create something different I guess.

Posted: 6/13/05 at 10:25pmIt is painful to listen to him doing whatever you could call that with those songs. There is supposed to be a certain earthy majesty to "Rich Man," - you don't have to be a great singer, but you've got to have a certain vocal richness the part calls for. This kind of stunt-casting arrogance is a slap in the face to performers who have singing talent, who train and pay their dues and can't get the parts they deserve.
