Hello everyone. I must admit that I have been fairly out of the loop on the theatre scene this fall due to various issues. I normally travel to NYC in March but this year itll be early April (just booked a show that requires this, very excited!) I was wondering for those of you who are informed if you could let me know what you’ve heard about the following shows potentially closing or extending so I can start to better plan for the trip.
Shows I’m considering on Broadway:
Drood
Once (I saw it already, want to again)
Who’s Afraid of Virgina Woolf
Glengarry Glen Ross
Matilda, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof and Picnic which I know aren’t open yet
Off Broadway:
Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike
Bare
Falling
Giant
I've said this in other threads but I have heard the DROOD cast is only contracted through 3/10, so further extensions might result in cast changes because of scheduling conflicts or difficulty renegotiating.
That being said, everyone in the cast that I have talked to has expressed desire to continue the run if the demand is there, so I wouldn't rule out the possibility.
I would imagine BARE probably will not be around in April, nor will GIANT, but I don't know for sure and that is just my estimation.
As Kelly2 says above Drood is supposed to run through 3/10 and a further extension may result in cast changes, but as Roundabout doesn't have another show to put into Studio 54 before the end of the season it's not outside the realm of possibility.
Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf is scheduled to close on 2/24, as is Picnic. I can't imagine Picnic extending as The Big Knife is scheduled to start less than a month later.
Glengarry Glen Ross is supposed to close on 1/20. With the reviews, I cannot really imagine it extending beyond that too much, if at all.
Matilda starts preview in March and opens in early April, so you're safe there. Cat is supposed to close at the end of March, but if it's selling well, I can see it extending into June to improve Tony odds and Jekyll and Hyde opens up at a different theater. Once will certainly still be open.
Giant is closing next Sunday. Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike is scheduled to close 1/20 having just been extended by a week. The next show is the Newhouse is supposed to start in early April, so it won't be open when you are here unless it transfers.

Once will still be there, but probably with different cast members, I remember Steve and Cristin talking about their contracts being up in March and it sounded like they weren't planning on sticking around longer than that.
I'll be in New York in February the week AFTER The Heiress is scheduled to close (Feb. 10). Anyone have a sense if there is a chance that show might extend?
Willep is correct regarding ONCE, I have a friend who was called back recently to replace Steve.

Little chance THE HEIRESS will extend past its scheduled closing date. Jessica Chastain will certainly be nominated for (and probably win) an Oscar for her performance in ZERO DARK THIRTY so there is no way she will miss the Oscar ceremony on February 24.

They could just as easily add a performance on Monday, 2/18 and cancel the matinee on 2/24 to accommodate Chastain should an extension and a nomination come to pass.
The Heiress is billed as a "strictly limited" engagement, but I would love to see it extend as well.
