Saw it last night and LOVED it!. Strallen and Fiorentino are great together. I loved Strallen's take on Mary. It's mysterious and magical. And she's totally magnetic to watch. Interested what other people thought.

I agree with Starboy. Was there yesterday. I've seen the show a couple of times before, but I've never been as gripped by the story as I was yesterday. It's true - Strallen is amazing. She gives Mary an other-worldliness that dangerous and exciting. I was really moved in the final scenes with the children and with Bert. Some may like Mary more sugary, but whatever, you'll see a star performer who can do it all. Welcome to Broadway Scarlett!

I had a friend of mine who saw her in London and said that she was very stiff and had no energy or life to her at all. Could have been a bad day for her or still nervous!

I saw the show last night.

Scarlett Strallen is absolutely fantastic. I can't imagine anyone being a better Mary than her. My only complaint was that her upper register sounded a bit shrill at times, but other than that, she was flawless.

Adam Fiorentino (who looks like the child of Andrew Keenan-Bolger and Jake Wilson) doesn't have much of a voice, but he gets by on charm.

There are some pictures from their debut over at Broadway.com.

Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.

DrTheatre: I also saw her in London and really loved her performance- definitely not a sugary sweet Mary, but still wonderfully suited for the role.

Wow!! I loved Mary Poppins when I saw it before. But Scarlett Strallen's Mary gives the show a whole new light, and more meaning. This Mary Poppins has substance as well as style. And the expensive production set-pieces took their place within a bigger whole. She's thrilling and yes, very moving.

Saw Scarlett's last in London, and was blown away by her talent, just like her sister really who I had seen the previous year as Janet Van De Graff in Drowsy and is now playing Maria in SOM, they are one talented family!

Ah, I thought that Ashley and Gavin were sticking around on Broadway until they left for the tour. Wonder what they'll do in the mean time...

I saw today's -- October 18, 2008 -- matinee with Scarlett and Adam, and they were quite good.

Scarlett sounded a bit off vocally in the first act, but was in terrific voice during Act II. She's very different from Ashley Brown, I must say. She does look more like Julie Andrews though.

As for Adam, well, the man is... SEXY HOT!!!!!!! I just never saw Bert that way before. I mean, Adam is really delicious. It's a damned shame that this is set in Victorian England because it would be nice to see some of Mr. Fiorentino in the buff!

Oh, yeah, he was very good as well. Again, very different from Gavin Lee.

Does anyone else think in those pictures that she looks kind of like Donna McKechnie?

I wouldn't have recognised Scarlett from those photos; she was great as Marianne in The Music Man in Chichester earlier this year.

I haven't heard of Adam Fiorentino before but he's got a great smile.

Saw Scarlett and Adam in POPPINS today and thought they were wonderful. She has a very different characterization than Ashley Brown, more grounded, but it totally worked. And she has a wonderful voice. Not only is Adam Fiorentino gorgeous, he is great as Bert. The audience (of 99% tourists) loved it. If you love MARY POPPINS and want to see others' takes on the role, definitely go see Scarlett and Adam. They are excellent replacement for such a wonderful show.

I believe Scarlett is on vacation next week though, so wait until February 18th to go see it!
