I truly didn't find the show such a train wreck...I've seen a lot worse.

The title of this thread reminds me of what people said about the lead singles from Jessica Simpson's albums from 2001 to 2008.
Never "that was absolutely wonderful." Always "it didn't suck that bad."

I've seen worse, too. I just haven't seen a show hit all my theater pet peeves in one fell swoop. Cheesy dialog, vocal effects on live singers, overpowering orchestra, metallic curtain that hurts my eyes, and no breathing room to actually applaud for some of the really strong vocal performances.
But yeah, compared to, say, Good Vibrations or maybe even Lennon the Musical, it's not too shabby. But in a season with The Book of Mormon and The Scottsboro Boys as reference points? I don't envy them right now.

Posted: 4/22/11 at 8:22amI actually enjoy going to see a show which was totally trashed on this message board. I expect the absolute worst and usually enjoy it more than I expected. This show was one of them. (the opposite is also true---if a show has been praised so much--I'm usually a little disappointed). Baby had very good talent but the book was choppy. (IMO). So---I just sat back and enjoyed the singing and dancing, which was very good. I probably won't see it again, but it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be---there were moments of fun.

Posted: 4/22/11 at 8:59amTo be fair, I'm sure the show has improved leaps and bounds beyond where it was when a lot of folks on this board saw it 3 weeks ago. Glad you hear you enjoyed yourself.

Muscle, didn't you think that the second act was kind of a mess? When they started going on that tour with all the different performers (and cast doubling and tripling). I mean, why is "It's My Party" included in thie show?
Still, I guess I'm glad you found some good in it.
