I want to make sure I have them all:
Grease
Gypsy
Sunday in the Park with George
South Pacific
Am I missing anything?

Posted: 3/16/08 at 8:24pmI still think Sunday will win best revival despite stiff competition from South Pacific. This is unless people believe Riedel's assertion that Lapine taught Sam Buntrock everything he knows in a week.

Posted: 3/16/08 at 8:25pmthis one will be a close race between a few of them
"Leave Walt Disney Theatricals new sparkling production of The Little Mermaid on Broadway alone!!!"
lakezurich will be played by Paul Groves in the BWW musical

Posted: 3/16/08 at 8:26pmHow many can be nominated again? If there's only 4 this season...then 2? or 3?

I'm pretty sure they can nominate three and leave one out, which they will do this year. GREASE will not get a nomination. I'm guessing it's going to be this season's PIRATE QUEEN.
I really wish that CABARET revival with Cumming hadn't been canceled, though on the opposite side we did get a SUNDAY extension at Studio 54.

What does GREASE have to do with THE PIRATE QUEEN?
There is no chance that GREASE will not be nominated for Best Musical Revival. Though many (including some voters) have argued that they shouldn't have to fill all slots (eg, Erin Dilly for Best Actress), as it stands now, I believe that all slots must be filled.
Plus, there's no reason NOT to nominate GREASE. It's a box office hit, and they'll get to perform on the telecast.
So again, there's no reason why GREASE will not and should not be nominated.
All 4 eligible musicals will receive nominations. I think SUNDAY will take it, but I haven't seen SOUTH PACIFIC yet.

Cute.

Posted: 3/16/08 at 9:12pmI love that someone thinks the TONYS are awarded based on quailty.

"The TONYS have nothing to do with grosses it has to do with quaailty of what is on stage."
Actually, the Tonys have to do with:
1) Which show(s) can they promote to bring more people to Broadway? Which are more commercial?
2) Who on the voting committee has friends that are nominated?
3) Sometimes, art.

Best Musical is always based on HYPE. Spamalot, Contact (which isn't even a musical), Lion King over Ragtime, and even Spring Awakening.
Ave Q screwed up the Tonys for a long time by not touring when they promised voters they would.
#15re: Best Revival Tony! Help!!!!
Posted: 3/16/08 at 9:19pmI think some people on BWW are the only people still talking about AVENUE Q's touring promise.

After seeing South Pacific on Saturday night, I'd vote for that if I were a Tony voter. I liked Sunday a lot, but South Pacific was fantastic.
It should be a tight race either way. Looking forward to it.
#18re: Best Revival Tony! Help!!!!
Posted: 3/16/08 at 9:25pmSouth Pacific vs. Sunday could very well end up like Pajama Game vs. Sweeney
#19re: Best Revival Tony! Help!!!!
Posted: 3/16/08 at 9:28pmPerhaps, but in this case, which is which?
#20re: Best Revival Tony! Help!!!!
Posted: 3/16/08 at 9:33pmWell, if they really have to fill all the slots, Grease looks like Grease will definitely be nominated then. They can then use it as a marketing ploy to prolong their life on Broadway, not that they're having problems now ("Come see us - we were nominated for Best Musical!").
