On May 18th, I'm heading to the city to see a Broadway play in order to write a paper for my college's Acting II course. I'm conflicted between THE BIG KNIFE and THE ASSEMBLED PARTIES. I'm not sure which one of the two to see, any suggestions?
ANYTHING BUT THE BIG KNIFE!
If you want to pay for a nap, go see BIG KNIFE. If you want an absolutely excellent play with outstanding performances, go see THE ASSEMBLED PARTIES.

I know many people have had issues with the assembled parties, but it is really excellent in my opinion. And you should be picking it for Jessica Hecht and Judith Light alone! The both give such wonderful performances!
Stay far, far away from The Big Knife.
I would See Vanya and Spike (best play this season)
and Assembled Parties would be my second choice.
Have not seen Assembled Parties yet, but thought The Big Knife was excellent. Hardly a snooze (unless of course you can't sit and listen for two hours. Then, you'd be better off at some noisy, mindless musical.) Thought Sonya, Vanya, etc was true junk.

Both plays would give you interesting things to write about, but THE ASSEMBLED PARTIES is a much more successful production. Weak direction really sinks THE BIG KNIFE, unfortunately.
Thanks for the feedback guys. I saw the Manhattan Theatre Club's revival of Enemy of the People at the Friedman and it was a great production, and MTC always puts up great productions. Assembled Parties it is! :)
Thanks for your video, AndrewAndrew! I want to see this show when I come back to NYC.
and to be fair, this is the video review of THE BIG KNIFE ...

To those who saw The Assembled Parties, did you purchase the rush tickets? If so, where in the theatre were they located? Thanks!
Rush tickets at the Friedman are typically in the first few rows of the mezzanine.
