I know TARZAN has been discussed ad nauseum on this board and the general response to the show was underwhelming to say the least.
I'm just interested to hear what people had to say about the decision to make Bob Crowley the director.
He hadn't directed anything on Broadway prior to this show and hasn't directed anything on Broadway since.
Granted, this was the first Disney Theatrical production after BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, THE LION KING and AIDA which were all enjoying successful runs, so I'm thinking Thomas Schumacher probably had a feeling of invincibility at that point in time.
I also remember TARZAN was supposed to have an out-of-town tryout which was cancelled and they opted to open right on Broadway instead.
Do you think they were under a time crunch and Crowley was chosen out of necessity? Was Disney rushing to get this to open and other directors wanted more time to make changes?
I'd love to know what people think.
