Brad and Roger return as next Max and Leo
#0Brad and Roger return as next Max and Leo
Posted: 3/19/04 at 12:17amBrad Oscar and Roger Bart will take over on April 6. Well, when no one was signed, we had to know that these were the only guys who knew the roles unless they brought someone in from the touring companies. Best wishes to them. Those are big shoes to fill, but I've enjoyed both of them in these roles.

Posted: 3/19/04 at 2:15amAhhhh, now I HAVE to go back if Roger's gonna be Leo again!! I thought I'd end it on Broderick (which was such a perfect theatrical experience btw). But how can I resist my dear Roger...sigh.

Posted: 3/19/04 at 6:01amI just hope the show can still survive without Nathan or Matthew.

It'll do just fine. Even at its "worst" it was still doing excellent business.
They nay not be "STARS" but they are terrific performers in their own right. And Brad sings the bejezus outta that score.

Posted: 3/19/04 at 9:05amI fully agree. But in todays setting its not necessarily talent as much as name recognition that keeps the box office cash drawer busy.

Posted: 3/19/04 at 9:05amAfter Nathan and Matthew, Brad and Roger were the only other pairing that I truly liked. Looks like I'll see the show yet AGAIN with them.

Posted: 3/19/04 at 11:21amI'm totally underwhelmed by this prospect. I saw them last April in the show and was not impressed.

Posted: 3/19/04 at 11:36amI think the box office was pretty decent when they were in the show. Nothing near the numbers that would close the show. The show definitely won't be in jeopardy. Get these guys some good press and the show will carry just fine.

"I even remember martin short being mentioned a few months ago."
Last I heard is that he's in the LA production.
I do think Brad and Roger are extremely talented. But think about it. We (the board)try to know and keep up with who's great and who's not. Not everyone is like that. In fact, I don't think most people are as well informed. So, when they see Roger Bart and Brad Oscar's names, there is a good chance that
With the explosion that was/is Nathan and people will have no idea who they are. Some will see the show anyway, some will not.
When Nathan and Matthew started the show and returned, all the attention is very uncommon. The free publicity that Matthew and Nathan brought to the show is worth a fortune.
As talented as I think Roger and Brad are, there is no denying that when they take over, ticket sales will drop. Quickly. And the free publicity will be nothing but a nice memory.

Um, yes.....free publicity. As in publicity that is unpaid for? In this case, not paid for by the show, as opposed to a commercial.
For example, when tickets went on sale to the general public, I myself saw major news networks (I know one was NBC) that included coverage of not only the day the tickets went on sale and that crazy line at the box office, but also ran a short piece the day Nathan and Matthew returned.
Another example, when a newspaper learned that Matthew and Nathan were even talking to the team at The Producers about maybe returning, it was major news.
