Ha. Interesting to see his take on Kimball's nomination.

I'm surprised there was no mention of Everyday Rapture's snub for Best Musical. You'd think he'd want the one show he championed in the race. I guess he doesn't really care all that much.

It might show up on his list of "will win/should win/should have been nominated".

Edit: Just kidding. He will probably pick Bloody Bloody. Updated On: 5/4/10 at 04:04 PM

"How, you might ask, do these nominations reflect the state of Broadway as a whole? (Zzzzz…Sorry, I just nodded off.)"

You brought it up in your own article. Isn't it your job to make it compelling to read? Sorry you bored yourself.

"How sad and telling that two of the nominations for best score go to what is essentially background or incidental music for the plays “Enron” and ” Fences."

I agree it's sad, but telling? What is telling is that the financial crisis of the last few years decimated funding for new work and this is the result. I expect better analysis from a writer I usually think it pretty insightful. While I think new show development was hurt, I was pleasantly surprised that ticket sales didn't drop off more during such hard economic times.

If the audience could do better, they'd be up here on stage and I'd be out there watching them. - Ethel Merman

If I'm not mistaken, he usually picks his "should win"s from the nominee list, no? (Maybe I am mistaken.)

"Can I go back to bed now?", Ben asks.

Did he ever get out of bed?

Yes Steven, I meant as his "should have been nominated".

Hmm... I guess he'd pick... Fela!?
I don't blame him for not wanting to list any of his personal picks just yet.

Steven, the article I am talking about is one that he and Isherwood release about a week or so after the nominations. This is the one from last year:

Fela! will probably be his "should win". Memphis will probably be his "will win." And my guess is that Bloody Bloody will be his "should have been nominated."

Looking over Brantley's predictions from last year, I am surprised they never corrected "Casey Mulligan." It is Carey Mulligan.

Yes, yes, I distinctly remember that list. I'd be interested to see this year's version. I'm sure Charles Isherwood will have a field day. All of his faves are there (minus Come Fly Away)!

He will probably pick Million Dollar Quartet as "should win" for Best Musical. Or American Idiot I suppose. And Come Fly Away is definitely going to be his "should have been nominated" for everything.
