I've never really been one for the movie turned musical ideas but after seeing the movie adaptation of Bridge To Terabithia a few years back I can't help feeling it would translate so well to stage if left in the right hands. The soundtrack from the movie already has a few good songs and I feel like the story could translate so well to music.
Thoughts?

I saw the movie without knowing anything about it (never read the book).
Loved it. I cried like a little bitch.
I think that a musical would pretty much take all the heart out of the story.
A better children's lit that's ripe for adaptation is Tuck Everlasting, IMO.

While I have never seen the movie, I am quite familiar with Bridge to Terabithia. There already is a play with music of this story. My daughter was in a professional tour in New England (30 performances in various towns and cities) in 2000 when she was 11 years old. At a couple of performances, Katherine Patterson (author of the book) spoke to the audience. In my view, the music was not that good. It was not a regular musical and again, more of a play with music written for the play and sung.
By the way, this play with music is available from Samuel French. It first premiered in 1990 at Stage One with the Louisville Children's Theater. My daughter's New England tour was based in Vermont, which is Katherine Patterson's home state.
Katherine Patterson, author of the book, also wrote this stage adaptation.
