Read why he had to turn it down.
No Conan Hosting
As great as he would have been I would much rather Neil Patrick Harris, or Whoopi host again.
I don't think he would have been so great. I thought it was a given that NPH would have a permanent gig with this (if available) I still think of last year's show, especially the opening number.
I forgot about Whoopi too. that was pretty good. Conan? I don't get it.
It was a given that Conan could not do anything until September. That was part of the deal when he left the tonight show. We won't see him for a while.
This would of been a little awkward for me. I'm kinda happy he wasn't able to it. I feel like his jokes would of fell flat.
I like Conan a lot and think he would have done a great job. He's not afraid to go musical, just look at this opening number he did at the Emmys in 2006. Good stuff. And more accurate than ever.
Trouble At NBC - Conan At The Emmys
Conan routinely made fun of theater and Broadway on his talk show. Why on Earth would they want him hosting theater's most important night of the year? All of his "jokes" would be at the expense of the industry.
There are plenty of "name" people they could get (and they've gotten them in the past) that have theater credentials. This is no big loss.
Exactly. Three hours of Conan making fun of what he's hosting wouldn't sit well with most people.
Oh, and he's also one of the most unfunny human beings alive. But that's besides the point.

I would much rather Neil Patrick Harris,
Oh god no. I am NPHed OUT! Can we please have an awards show he doesn't show up in to do a completely expected musical number?
What was the reasoning behind asking Conan in the first place??? Did Ina Garten turn them down?
I assume CBS wants him to rub it in NBC's face. He's doing a tour this Summer which isn't prevented by his NBC deal.
"I am NPH'd out, can we....."
he has only done that this year. it's not like he has done that forever.
i frankly think that saved the oscar opening, because it was awful.
anyway, i wish they would have a regular host like him for a bit. kind of like the good ol'days of oscars with billy crystan or johnny carson doing several years.
I would go for Neil hosting again but I didn't care for his Oscar number. I thought it was close to awful. I thought Whoopie was fun at the Tony Awards and would like to see her do it again. JMO
NPH has hosted oodles of awards shows in the last year. I think that's where many are coming when they say they're burnt out on him.
He's also going to be in full swing on his own tour around June 13th anyway.
The guy's not appropriate for hosting this event, as far as I am concerned.
oh i understand where they are coming from. my point was that it was only this year. and i thought it was only two or three award shows. to me that isn't oodles. i would like to see a common host for a while instead of a different one every year.
maybe it doesn't bother me because i love him. i really started loving him all the more when i saw his brilliant portrayal on criminal minds.
edit *crystal not crystan from upper post. and i agree...maybe give billy a bash at it.

BOO NPH (Burnt out on Neil Patrick Harris).
He's also starting to wallow in his own wonderfulness, which is more annoying than the overexposure.
^ well that is true. i have seen some cockiness.

I agree. I've never seen the charm of Mr. O'Brien.
I'm also in the camp of those suffering from NPH over-exposure syndrome. I don't think I could stand another cutesy wink or crooked grin. I do like him and obviously he's talented but enough already.
Whoopi. Whatever.
It really doesn't matter who does the hosting, I'll be watching. The show will be long and boring, and I'll wonder if I'm just a glutton for punishment as I make plans to watch again next year.
Anyone else think that Kelsey Grammar should host?

I like Conan fine, but think he would be lame hosting the Tonys.
