on "the site that should not be named" i saw several clips of "Cabaret" from London's Donmar Whse with Alan Cumming and Jane Horrocks - they were not bootleg clips, it looked professionally filmed - is this available?

the "mein herr" was different with jane in a baby doll outfit in a big chair licking a lollipop ala Edith Anne.

It was filmed for some reason but it's not on general release. It's findable if you're a naughty person though.

do they do the "Cabaret" song the same as on Bway with Sally in a tight spot, black lips & eyes, black shift dress, angry singing?

i loved that interp of the song when i saw it, very 180 from liza.

Jane Harrocks does it a lot more angry and I wouldn't quite call the end part singing... and the recorded Donmar Production is cut... all the material is not on the British DVD... and there were many changes for the better when it made the jump to Broadway... but it is still and interesting document.

Yeah watching it really makes you realize that Marshall's co directign added a LOT ot the production for Broadway.

Still it's a good record.

it was filmed for the BBC--around the same time the Donmar/Sam Mendes production of Company was likewise filmed and aired--no other releases for either. I think it was a bit of a deal like the PBS Live from Lincoln Center broadcasts--no DVD rights etc. However they were shown with commercial interuptions (actually which makes me think maybe it wasn't filmed for the BBC as I think BBC is commercial free--either way they were aired in the UK)

*edit* wait I guess Cabaret did get a UK dvd release? Company didn't though

It was filmed for ITV1, but they dont actualy own the rights to it which is strange. It was due to be released through Disc distrubtion a few years ago but vanished from their new release listings a while ago. They also had the filmed version of the London version of Company listed as well but that never saw the light of day. Thank god i recorded it off TV when it was on.

It's too bad PBS or someone never tried to get the irghts to this (I always hoped someone in N america would air or release Taboo as well... Here in Canada at least Bravo has aired Jerry Springer a lot)

The right to put this on TV has been going on for years. They wanted to cash in on the fact that Jane Horrocks was, at the time huge in the UK in 'Ab Fab'. It just never happened and any one who has it recorded on VHS or DVD from its one and only TV showing is very lucky. Its a fantastic recording. 'Company' had the same problems and was only screened once. The 'Company' recording is brilliant. Both will never be released so hold on to them guys. I watched 'Company' a few weeks back after seeing the Broadway one and its a stunning production.

A young actress with Noel coward after a dreadful opening night performance said to him 'Well, i knew my lines backwards this morning!'' Noels fast reply was ''Yes dear, and thats exactly how you said them tonight'!'

both are good productions. I transfered my video copies of each of these (made when they were aired in the UK) to dvd a while back so they keep better and I love returning to them
