Posted: 3/9/06 at 3:38pmI saw the press release that John Lloyd Young, of Jersey Boys, has been honored with a caricature at Sardi's. No doubt he's extremely talented, but isn't it a little premature for that? I thought you had to be a very established star of epic magnitude to have your caricature on display at Sardi's.

Posted: 3/10/06 at 12:58pmThis has been debated and discussed in many previous posts. However, I thought the same thing you did until I saw Jersey Boys this past weekend. This is a huge starring role for someone new like John and he is spectacular in the show. The caricature might be pushing it, but I am most definitely rooting for him (and the show) at Tony time.

Posted: 3/10/06 at 1:03pmIn recent years performers have gotten caricatures who were not "stars of epic magnitude". During the run of The Scarlet Pimpernel, Douglas Sills, got his caricature made for Sardi's, yes he was excellent in that role--but definitely not an epic star. Also, many of the film and TV stars who do Broadway will get caricatures done as well, even though they have few to no previous credits. I am not sure how it is decided or what the actual criteria for enshrinment is.

Posted: 3/10/06 at 5:54pmThat makes a lot of sense, since last year Norbert Leo Butz, Sherie Rene Scott and Greg Jbara all got Sardi's charicatures.

Posted: 3/11/06 at 3:08pmThank you for all the input. Gee, they must be running out of wall space at Sardi's already! They'll have to add a room.
