Chitty Chitty Flop Flop?
#0Chitty Chitty Flop Flop?
Posted: 3/25/05 at 11:26pmI just checked out the site of Chitty (on Broadway) and it has clips from the recordings of the London version. I pray that the producers here in America do some MAJOR changes....I seriously believe that TOOT SWEETS is THE definition of a Production Number. I love every aspect of it in the film and from what I've listened to, the tempo of the thing has changed considerably....I mean if there weren't any lyrics to what I'd heard, I probably wouldn't have recognized it....Also the Overture is VERY disappointing. I mean I guess I'm just a sucker for a great overture (GYPSY, PETER PAN, etc)....but this one's finish is the biggest let down for an overture i've ever heard...I'm not seeing the show until May so for anyone who sees it PLEASE PLEASE let me know how things are so I can at least prepare myself if no changes are made!

This. Show. Can. Not. Flop.
I think it's going to be silly, but Raul needs a show that outlasts him. *prays*

Emcee, have you ever considered it not being the show, but someone in the show?

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Honestly, I think it's going to be really popular with kids and families. It's a huge hit in London.
And, Raul Esparza can make anything great. I may have to eat these words, but I have faith in him.
ETA: Broadway Theatre: I'm just going to pretend I didn't read that! *I suggest you start running now, before I virtually kick your ass.

I heard the advanced sales weren't too shabby. They'll probably draw in a lot of families. It's certainly being billed as family-friendly.

Posted: 3/25/05 at 11:32pmThe show will sell tickets based on it's name recognition. But I honestly do not see this becoming the next "Wicked" where there is a huge demand for tickets and a monstrous fan base. Not necessarily saying it'll flop, though.

Posted: 3/25/05 at 11:36pmI should probably clear up something. it's not that I'm saying the show will flop because of the cast. I'm saying that people are probably expecting a xerox from screen to stage. I know there isn't a huge fanbase nor do i think there WILL be for the broadway show, but I know there is quite a large one for the movie itself (guilty as charged!) haha,....anyway...I'm saying the production is going to get a lot of patrons who remember the movie and the songs and the way they were in the film, and then get there and its like "what the hell is this??"...For those unfamiliar with the show, won't know otherwise and may love it.....But i speak for those who LOVE the film....I dunno, I just hope they don't destroy the show...(not the actors but the directors and producers)
